LR Prep Strategy

NMAT 2022 Preparation Strategy For Logical/Critical Reasoning

  • For Critical Reasoning questions, the candidates first need to comprehend the meaning of the term “inference” or what the question requires of them in order to attempt the same correctly.
  • Try and identify the conclusion, the conclusion may not always come at the end of the text it may come somewhere in the middle, end or even the beginning.
  • Read the content/sentences correctly identify the clues or hint which logically follows one statement to the next.
  • Always learn to ascertain as to what exactly the question asks and read the question first before going through the material on which it is based; you should not assume that you know what will be asked about an argument. For example- an argument may have some prominent flaws but you may not be asked to detect them but instead choose the argument which does not have a flaw in it.
  • Read all the options carefully and repeatedly in case of confusion. Do not assume that a given choice is best suited as an answer without looking through all the options, as the options are at times deceptive resembling an answer but may not actually be the correct answer.
  • Focus on the pictorial representation of data. Look through the patterns/designs carefully when it comes to solving puzzles, visuals etc.
  • Improve your own prediction analysis with the help of practise questions, mocks and tutorials.
  • Start timing yourself, make sure to always practise Logical Reasoning with proper timing. Each time you practise with the time you will learn to pick up a pace and will accurately be able to solve all the questions within the limited time.
  • Practise every day; as it will help you familiarise yourself with the type of questions that are expected to come in the examination.
  • Pay special attention to words like “all”, “some”, “none” when you come across facts in the question. Also be attentive to words like “only, “other than” and “unless” that specify facts and help candidates to draw conclusions.
  • Try to eliminate the deceiving options and choose the one you would eventually arrive to- that should be the main goal when it comes to MCQs.

NMAT 2022 Preparation Strategy Some Tips For Non-Verbal Reasoning

  • Revise the topics you are confident it is as those will help you achieve good marks.
  • Visualize the problem in your head, make a mind map, draw a rough diagram, table or arrangement to get a clear idea of the question.
  • In Data Analysis questions, it is useful to try and eliminate the choices which do not seem like a possible answer to gradually arrive upon the answer.
  • Read the entire question properly with time as sometimes in a hurry you may miss out the important hints the question offers.
  • You should focus on one topic at a time as these are most conceptual and should be solved using a certain technique; even though there may seem to be an overlapping of topics the candidate should go through the topics one by one.

Tips And Tricks

NMAT 2022 Preparation Tips And Tricks

  • As already mentioned above, there will be a total of 36 questions which need to be answered in 40 minutes, which almost comes down to one question per minute. Therefore, proper practise and time management is the key to success in this section.
  • Leave any set or question that you don’t understand or cannot attempt in first 30 seconds. There is no point in wasting time on only one set or one question. Especially in questions of pattern matching and number series where one gets the answer immediately or it doesn’t strike at all.
  • An attempt of about 26 to 29 questions with 95% accuracy will be considered good. The candidates need to master critical/logical reasoning to obtain a high score. In previous years the cut-off for the same ranged from between 59 to 61.
  • This section is mainly given so that the students learn to devise a strategy so as to attempt questions from all the sections as this is a scoring section.
  • Time Management is extremely crucial as the NMAT is a speed-driven exam and therefore the candidates must place prime importance on managing their time effectively.
