Goa Institute of Management Tips for PI

  • Prepare Well: You should prepare yourself for the kinds of questions that the panellists. might ask you. Read newspapers, watch videos, give mock interviews, take notes from alumni and the most important thing is to practice daily.
  • Know Yourself: During the whole interview, the panelists try to know but how are you going to communicate the same to him if you don’t know about yourself. Practice answering questions about your strengths, weaknesses, areas of interests, personal and professional experiences etc.
  • Be Yourself: Don’t try to be someone else. Most people try to copy someone else’s belief that it’ll help them get through, which is not true. The interviewer can easily make out that you’re different from the way you’re showcasing yourself. So, it is extremely important to be honest.
  • Analyse the common events: You’re supposed to be aware of whatever’s happening around you and be able to understand the positives and negatives of the same. You should be able to analyse common events as a manager. GIM professors look out for candidates who can stimulate discussions in the class by analysing what is happening around them.
  • Be able to direct the interview: During the interview, the interviewer can ask you anything under the sun. But you can direct the interview in your favour if you’ve prepared your answers properly.

For a PGDM FS, KJ Somaiya is the best option among these. The institute has a locational advantage since it is situated at the financial hub of the country, i.e. Mumbai.  KJ Somaiya placements are great. Both TAPMI and GIM are well-respected institutions in India that offer management education. Both institutions have their own unique strengths and areas of focus.GIM is known for its focus on sustainability and corporate social responsibility, as well as its international focus with a strong emphasis on international business.

Both institutes give a sharp edge to each other in terms of rankings, placements, and infrastructure. My cousin was in a similar situation and eventually went for GIM owing to its smaller batch size. Although both institutes offer similar opportunities and exposure, I can guarantee that GIM will give you a much better campus life.

TAPMI too is a leading B School and from what I heard from a friend, most of its pass outs are working in high positions in reputed firms. Overall,

  • Placement-wise, GIM>TAPMI
  • Campus life-wise, TAPMI>GIM

Ultimately, the choice between TAPMI and GIM will depend on the individual's specific interests and career goals. Both institutions offer high-quality education,

If you are shortlisted for the Achiever's round at a management institute like Goa Institute of Management, you will receive an email with further instructions. You will have to book your interview slot from the options provided. You will have the choice of attending a lecture with current students or an option without class.

You will be required to reach the campus by 9 am on the day of the interview. You will be directed to a classroom where the document verification process will take place. A random allotment will be made among eight faculties/admin staff responsible for document verification. While filling out the form, you will be asked to write your three best achievements and provide proof for the same. Make sure to write only verifiable achievements.

You will be split into groups of 10-12 candidates for the Group Discussion. There will be two panelists (both faculties at the institute). This will be a mix of Group Interviews and Group Discussions. You will be given a minute to introduce yourself, and the panelists will then ask you to choose a topic for discussion. You will discuss current issues, and a topic will be given based on the work experience of all candidates. For example, "How do you handle Passive vs Aggressive bosses".

After the group discussion, you will have lunch, and then the PI round 1 will start. Here, two panelists (one male, one female) will interview you. The interview questions will be general and based on your work experience. You may be asked about your name, something about yourself, the best and worst brand you worked for, the marketing strategy for the institute, and any questions you may have for the panelists.

After the first round, you will be asked to wait back, and some names will be announced for the Director's round. If your name is called, you will have to wait in the reception area for your turn. The Director's round will be more intense, and you may be asked questions about your work experience and why you want to pursue an MBA. Make sure to prepare well for this round.

The Director's round questions will include topics like your work experience, marketing, sales, and real estate. There may be multiple panelists, and some may not ask any questions. You may be asked to explain your document verification process if it's not in place.

If you successfully complete the interview process, you may be given a spot offer. It's important to stay positive and confident throughout the process, even if you feel nervous. Make sure to prepare well and answer all questions honestly and to the best of your ability.
