Madras Institute of Technology was established in 1949. It is a private institute affiliated with Anna University. The institute is approved by AICTE; its computer science and engineering course has been accredited by the NBA in the Tier I group.
The institute has a celebrated Aeronautical Engineering department. The first aeronautical engineering department in the country, it was the alma mater of the former President of India and noted scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The department was recognized by UNESCO and placed under the United Nations Development Programme.
MIT Chennai offers 36 specializations across six courses. They are B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Phil, M.Sc, MS (Research) and PhD.
For admission to B.Tech, a candidate has to pass 10+2 with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. For selection, the candidate must go for TNEA counselling.
For admission to M.Tech, a candidate has to have a B.Tech degree with 50% marks in the relevant subject. They must take either the TANCET or the GATE for selection purposes.
The institute admits candidates to M.Phil and M.Sc courses in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, respectively. To be eligible for admission, candidates must have a graduate degree in Mathematics. Selection is merit-based.
The institute offers 11 specializations under its research programmes: seven under PhD, and four under MS. For admission, a candidate should have a Masters degree in the relevant discipline with 55% marks. For selection, they have to take the UGC NET, CSIR NET, or GATE.
MIT Chennai has a fine placement record. Tech companies like Microsoft, Adobe, Amazon, Samsung, and so on, have visited the company. The average CTC is 450,000 INR per year, while the highest package that was offered has been 3.9 million INR per year to the CSE and IT departments.
