Since you have specifically mentioned the aspects on which you want info, I will go straight to the point.

Learning experience: The pedagogy and curriculum are industry relevant and are updated on a yearly basis. The students are taught about Marketing from Day one covering all the arenas. It’s the relevancy and well-structured nature of the curriculum combined with excellent pedagogy that gives the students of MICA an edge over other students of B schools like IIMs during internships

The course is specially designed for Marketing enthusiasts. The students win many corporate and B-school competitions like Mahindra War Room, HUL Lime, etc. owing to the institute's specialization in Marketing. These competitions fill the gap between the theoretical and practical knowledge we gained in class.

Campus life: The MICA campus is one of the liveliest campuses across India. A student-driven committee organized fun events and kept the spirit alive on campus. We have football, cricket, Game of Thrones, and other movie screenings. Birthdays at MICA are celebrated with much fun. You will get a baggage of memories just in 2 months that will stay with you throughout your life.

ROI: MICA fees are not less given how coveted the course is. This year the fee was ?21 Lakh. The course is priced competitively but it is still not as high as the fees charged by private B Schools like NMIMS or IIMs. After interacting with a few alumni I got to know that most of them managed to repay their loans within 3-4 years. So overall the ROI is pretty good.

After taking exams like CAT, GMAT and MICAT, which is MICA's own entrance exam, you are shortlisted for GE/PI based on your combined CAT/GMAT and MICAT score. Every candidate's interview experience is unique and subjective. The panelists try to ask critical questions, eager to test your stand. But you don't need to stress out, just be rational.

Here is a genuine interview experience of a friend of mine:

Venue: Indian Social Institute, New Delhi

Slot: Morning Slot

  1. First of all your GEPI Registrations happen at the venue which eventually gets over by 9:15 after which you are assigned panel numbers. Candidates are put into several groups of 7-8 members each, and from there they are taken for the GE.
  2. Thereafter, two-panel members welcome you and provide you with aprons to wear, on which a serial number of candidates is written.
  3. A group exercise is assigned which has to be executed collectively by the group members at the GE. The exercise that my friend got was "to prepare a skit in which you're playing yourself and Candidate 3 is chosen for admission to MICA from this group, you have to justify his selection."
  4. Then, you are given 7-8 minutes to think about and plan your group exercise. My friend and her group decided that they will let candidate 3 have a great interview while other group members will be downplaying their strengths and hence justifying the selection of candidate 3 through their group exercise.
  5. After your group exercise, you are asked to wait for the common waiting area and you will be facing three new panel members for the personal interview round.
  6. The panel members will greet you and ask you to sit down. They might discuss the group project that you just performed and what was your role in it.
  7. They might ask you about your academic background and why you chose to appear for MICA over IIMs. Questions about social media marketing, digital marketing can be thrown at you at any time so prepare beforehand.

Lastly, even if the panelists try to grill you, you have to stand your ground and keep your composure. If you have good communication skills and you understand what all marketing is actually about, then your result will be definitely converted.

One of my relatives is pursuing the Digital Marketing course offered by MICA in association with Upgrad. He is a marketing professional and has an MBA in Marketing. He was looking to upskill himself in digital marketing and choose this course based on the recommendations he got from his peers.

  • According to his experience of 3 to 3.5 months in the program, it is worth the time, money, and effort. The course does take on an average of 6 hours a week. However, the course designed in a way that is quite convenient for working professionals. It is systematically broken into small videos to fit the busy schedule of working professionals.
  • There are non-graded assessments, live projects, resume building, and career mentorship programs.
  • They also provide extra reading materials as Digital Marketing is a quite vast field and you will need to keep yourself updated by reading up. They also cover the basic information that freshers need to know but hesitant to ask.
  • If you are looking for upgrading your skills in Digital marketing then Upgrad’s program is definitely a good choice. They also offer three specializations.

To know more about the course you can visit the official website of Upgrad. They do deliver what they promise.

MICA, or Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad, is a premier institute in India known for its excellence in the fields of Media, Advertising, and Market Research. Graduates from MICA are highly sought after by employers in these industries and are often preferred over those from higher-ranked institutions. This is due to the institute's reputation for providing students with a strong foundation in these fields through its rigorous curriculum, industry-relevant courses, and practical training.

In the media industry, graduates from MICA are known for their expertise in strategic planning, brand management, and media buying and planning. They are also well-equipped to work in the fields of advertising, digital marketing, and communication research. MICA has a strong alumni network of industry leaders, which helps students to secure internships and job opportunities post-graduation.

However, it's also important to note that MICA graduates are successful in other industries as well such as FMCG, Telecom, E-commerce, and more. The institute's curriculum is designed to provide students with a holistic understanding of the business environment, which equips them with the skills necessary to excel in various industries. Many of the alumni have also gone on to start their own businesses and become entrepreneurs.

When considering MICA as an option for your post-graduation studies, it's important to take into account all of the available options and weigh the pros and cons. Researching the institute's curriculum, faculty, and alumni network, as well as speaking to current students and alumni can help you to make an informed decision. Additionally, it would be a good idea to seek the opinion of professionals in the field you are interested in, as they can provide valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges of different career paths.

Hostel

For MICA's GE-PI process, two test-scores are always considered before they shortlist any candidate. After that, you should clear any of the following- CAT; XAT or GMAT. You must essentially also manage to crack the written exam of MICA itself - MICAT.

This might look and sound difficult and a rather intimidating task, that you have to go through two competitive level exams to get in. You would be able to keep track of the level of your knowledge via Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability and Quantitative Aptitude. Therefore, you must understand that it is vital to chalk out a plan and a strategy.

Interestingly, MICAT comprises two different sections which are - Psychometric and Descriptive. This isn't a part of your regular CAT/XAT/GMAT. What's unique isn't the fact that this particular section sets aside students from MICA and B-school graduates.

Here's a brief overview of Psychometric and Descriptive sections -

  • Descriptive - This section requires candidates to answer questions based on their story-telling abilities and check how well they manage to analyse and handle situations under sheer pressure and stress.
  • Psychometric - A qualifier for the assessed test - this section is such that if you fail in answering even one question, know that your paper will not be considered and hence, would not be evaluated. Right or wrong aspects do not matter in this section but it takes away an impression of the way you function your mind which renders an impression about you too.

Talking about B-school graduates is pretty straightforward. Once they are shortlisted, they would stick to GDs or else WATs as their second option. While MICA does this. It administers a group exercise checking the candidate's leadership, teamwork and creative side. And by the time you reach the PI, you would go through a number of different experiences.

The path to MICA is indeed difficult and intimidating at times, but if you have already made up your mind to reach there by staying persistent in your efforts, you would definitely be successful. Once you're there, your life will turn around for good.

MICA is an excellent choice for Digital Marketing and Advertising. The institute has a great faculty base. The placement opportunities offered are pretty good. MICA placements 2022 ended with an average CTC of INR 19 LPA. While the highest CTC offered was INR 57.51 LPA.

If you aren’t sure about specialization and want to explore different domains, choosing IIM Indore will be better.
