₹ 4,310Calcutta University's syllabus is standard when compared to Burdwan University. However, it will not help you get good grades, instead, it will develop you in a better way. CU will provide the proper exposure as it is India's first state university with 150+ institutions.
For achieving good academic scores, You can also enroll in other institutions such as Burdwan University (Chandannagar College is a great institution), Rabindra Bharati University, or private universities like Techno India or UEM. They are a bit expensive, yet they not only deliver good marks, but also placement prospects. So the choice is yours, if you want to go to CU opt for it or if not go for other colleges.
One of my relatives is an alumnus of Burdwan University, and as per his experience, life at the university is average. You can do the following things during weekends:
These are some of the activities you can do over the weekend.
I have many friends who graduated from University of Burdwan and here is their advice.
These are a few of the things that you should keep in mind if you are planning to join University of Burdwan.
I have friends who completed their B.Com from Calcutta University and Burdwan University and according to them, it's difficult to get a BCom degree from any of these two universities. Because it is honors, and you must also manage a large syllabus.
As far as the curriculum is concerned, Calcutta University and Burdwan University are identical. Even Burdwan University asks the same questions again and over.
You will have to put in extra effort to do well in academics at both Burdwan University and Calcutta University. However, Calcutta University has a locational advantage. You will have better access to coaching. Calcutta University is also more recognized.
I will suggest that you take all these factors into consideration, and choose an institute according to your convenience.
There are better options that you can apply for based on the tests that you took such as CAT, XAT, NMAT, and so on. I would recommend looking into another Tier 2 B-schools that have a national brand name. NITs (NIT Allahabad, NIT Trichy), IMS BHU, IIT Dhanbad, and others are among the few schools that accept lesser scores.
I have a few friends who did their MBA from Burdwan University and according to them, the placement is not quite good. However, the tuition structure is extremely reasonable, and the faculties are excellent. Here are brief placement highlights for Burdwan University.
Placement average | 85% |
Average CTC | INR 3.5 LPA |
Major recruiters | IBM Daksh, Cognizant, HDFC Bank, SBI General Insurance, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Tele-performance, and Concentrix. |
It’s best if you look for options other than Burdwan University for your MBA.
Also, you should know that irrespective of which university you are taking, you will have to study on your own. You may get assistance from your professor or your friends. However, you will have to put in the extra effort to do well in your academics and get a job.
It is not a good place if you want to pursue M.Sc as it falls short in faculty. The competition among students is very low. Everyone is just after the marks and not learning anything of substance.
The hostels are also very bad and seminars are held there. You will not be given exposure to the opportunities that your courses can bring about. Placement is an alien topic for them. The success rate at the national level is zero.
One of my friends studied at Calcutta University, so I might be able to give you some details about it.
Finally, you should keep in mind that other mentioned universities may not be as old and experienced as CU, but they will show a bit of leniency while giving marks. So ultimately the decision is yours, whether you want to study in a reputed university with a strong and reliable alumni network or opt for the easier way out by getting admission to newer institutions.
The Physics department at Presidency University has a number of specializations and the students pursuing M.Sc need to make dissertations as well. A lot of my friends studied at Presidency University and it is definitely better than the University of Burdwan.
The scientific exposure Presidency University provides to its students is more efficient than that provided by the University of Burdwan despite having a qualified and experienced faculty. Presidency University also has tie-ups with foreign universities.
The University of Burdwan has collaborations with funding agencies like UGC, DST, CSIR, ISRO, BRNS, etc. and the faculties have obtained the research projects individually. Presidency University is also very prestigious and is often the first choice for anyone for a number of streams.
I have friends from both the University Institute of Technology Burdwan and Techno India Salt Lake, and according to their opinion, the latter is slightly better.
Burdwan University:
Techno India:
After having a closer look at all the prospects of both the institutes, it is best to opt for Techno India Salt Lake, as per what has been witnessed recently.
