Both IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur are well-respected institutions, known for their high-quality education and research. Comparing the two is already justified and saying that one institution is becoming the next of the other is more so. Both institutions have their strengths and areas of expertise. Yet, if I was to choose one I would have always gone for IIT Kanpur.  Some points that favor my preference are as follows: The quality of coursework at IIT Kanpur is extremely challenging and will keep you on your toes always. It offers the best quality of education and you will learn much more than other IITs if you are regular to classes and take your academics seriously, The usual schedule of a student at IIT Kanpur is not always jammed, unlike the general opinion. The timings of the clubs align with the classes and you can take out time for both if you are good at managing your time well. Another challenging aspect of IIT Kanpur is its tough grading system, (10,8,6,4..) under which anything below 10 is 8. Thus you are under tremendous pressure to maintain your CGPA and is enough of a motivating factor. Overall, even if Guwahati was to be compared to IIT Kanpur, it still has a long way to go until it becomes the next IIT Kanpur.

Almost all IITs are excellent engineering colleges providing the best education and amenities. Yet there might be some comparisons that can be drawn based on common aspects like choice, infrastructure, and geographical location. Eventually, it’s a matter of your preferences and not the institute's worth. For example, if you are someone who considers Academics the most important factor to determine the credibility of an institute, then IIT Kanpur is the best choice for you. It has the toughest grading system and the entire focus is on studies. So if you are excellent in academics, you will remain at the top here. Both institutes face a certain level of locational disadvantage but IIT Kanpur is still slightly better in this aspect.

You should choose IIT Madras CSE. Being a metro city, Chennai has an edge over Kanpur. It will be easier to get resources, internships, projects, and placements. IIT Madras has a smaller batch size. So, it’s easier for students to communicate with teachers. If you are interested in Machine Learning and AI, then IITM will be the better option. CSE Prof. Balaraman Ravindran has been featured in reputed business magazines.  IIT Madras placements are excellent for CSE. Students of the branch usually receive an average CTC of around INR 17.54 LPA.

On an overall scale, IIT Madras is better. It is an old IIT with a great placement record.  IIT Madras Research park is one of a kind. It is the first university-based research park in India. IITM collaborates with many industries for R&D. The institute has an excellent start-up culture. If you have a good start-up idea, you will get the guidance and resources required from the institute.  IIT Madras placements are great. During the 2022 placement drive, the highest CTC stood around INR 1.98 CPA. The average CTC for the institute is INR 21.48 LPA.  IIT Madras offers an enviable campus life. The fests and clubs are amazing.  IIT Madras campus used to be a part of Guindy national park. Spotting deers, monkeys, wildcats, and blackbucks running around the campus is an everyday event.

MBA from any IIT would be nothing more than a disappointment that you would face except for Mumbai. When it comes to placements, they provide better placement opportunities in comparison to MBA programs at IIT. Make a wise choice in the selection of your college.

Both IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras are excellent institutes for M.Sc in Physics, considering the student is actually interested in learning the subject to the core. The points below give a brief overview of IIT Madras, stating some of the advantages of choosing it over IIT Kanpur. ? Professors will help you to get involved in challenging projects during your course, with specializations in complex topics like cosmology, etc. ? The main motto of the faculties of IIT Madras is to build their students to at least a certain limit of knowledge, over anything else. ? Most of the professors have a solid foundation in advanced concepts of theoretical physics, for example, Prof. M V Satyanarayana, Prof. M Pattabiraman, Prof. V Balakrishnan, Prof. A Lakshminarayan, etc. ? Although the level of questions set during the exams at IIT Madras is always up to the mark, almost no students fail in the institute due to the teaching facilities offered throughout the year. ? Talking about the campus of IIT Madras, it is extremely beautiful, being close to the sea as well. Therefore, although both the institutes are equally excellent, IIT Madras can be a better option for students interested in Physics, considering the points listed above.

If you are truly passionate about Physics, be it theoretical or practical, you should choose either IISER Pune or IISER Kolkata. IISER Kolkata is the best option for Physics, while IISER Pune is well-known for its overall academics and infrastructure. Here are the reasons why you should prefer IISER over IIT. Most students joining IIT, aim to get corporate jobs. If you are interested in the subject and want to do actual research on it, IISER is the best place. You will get to meet like-minded people too.  You can check the faculty and the curriculum for Physics at IIT. Even IIT Kanpur which is known for its Physics department puts more emphasis on applied Physics. Most IITs leave out theory-oriented courses like ‘Cosmology’. Also, you won’t get the lab infrastructure similar to IISER at IITs. The labs at IISERs are specifically designed for research works. From the 5th semester onwards, the course curriculum at IITs become quite different. It becomes more technology-oriented. While students at IISERs are required to do a one-year-long research project.   Based on the performance over the last few years, IISER Pune will be better than IISER Kolkata. 

IIT B is the best option among these for pursuing an MTech in Industrial Engineering. Your preference order should be IITB>IIT KGP>IIT K>NITIE. IIT B has an innovative course curriculum. You will learn optimizing techniques and algorithms. The course work and curriculum inspire research.  Companies such as Deloitte, Mahindra, Accenture, Sony, etc. visit the campus placements. The highest salary offered for MTech Industrial Engineering goes up to INR 19 LPA. 

Choosing between IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras can be a daunting task, but there are a few things to keep in mind while making this decision. If you are from the North and want to be near home, then choose IIT Kanpur. For a South Indian, IIT Madras might be a better option. If you want to explore different parts of the country and experience diverse cultures, then you should consider the IIT in the other region. For example, a north Indian should choose IIT Madras and a south Indian should opt for IIT Kanpur. Don't get caught up in the rankings or the location. Both institutes are highly prestigious and offer excellent education and opportunities. In the past, IIT Kanpur used to close early, but that should not be a decisive factor. You must keep in mind that both institutes are highly respected and highly regarded that offer excellent academic programs, faculty, and research opportunities.

Infrastructure: IIT Kanpur: It has a very well planned and spacious campus spreading across 1055 acres. The campus is very neat and beautifully laid out for providing students with academic and residential needs. Hostel facilities, sports facilities, medical facilities, etc are all available on the campus itself. IIT Tirupati: It is one of the premier institutes in the country for technical education. Wi-Fi, labs, medical facilities, sports, classrooms all are available and very well designed. Classrooms are very well conditioned and the college is very well connected to the market, railway station and the airport. Placement: IIT Kanpur: It has a very active placement cell that conducts training programs and recruitment drives regularly and efficiently. Placements are brought for students for high paying profiles with a median salary of 15 LPA.
