Course Description

IIT Kanpur MS Admissions will be offered on the basis of written tests and interviews conducted by the respective department. IIT Kanpur provides part-time course facilities for candidates who are currently working and want to pursue their MS degree. Students seeking admission to a part-time MS program must have at least two years of working experience in the relevant field to which the candidate wants to take admission. IIT Kanpur will provide financial support (Institute Assistantship/Scholarship) to the non sponsored MS students (by research)

IIT Kanpur MS Eligibility Criteria

Below mentioned table shows the eligibility criteria for students who want to take admission to the IIT Kanpur MS Program.

IIT Kanpur MS Admission 2024

Candidates who want to take admission at IIT Kanpur MS Program must go through the two-step admission process

Profile evaluation of candidates will be done on the basis of marks scored in the bachelor’s degree and marks scored in the GATE Exam. Shortlisting of candidates will be done after this step.
Final Shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview and call letters will be issued to them.
On the basis of candidates' scores in the Bachelor’s exam, GATE exam, and interview students are selected and called for admission.

GATE 2024 Exam Pattern

GATE 2024 is a 3-hour online test where candidates will have to attempt 65 questions carrying 100 marks. GATE 2024 Syllabus consists of three sections, General Aptitude, Mathematical Engineering, and Core-subject Specific Section, for most of the papers.

IIT Kanpur MS Scholarship

Regular Students of MS program are given Financial Support in the form of Institute Assistantship.
Students are given duties which they need to perform during the program.
For working 8 hours per week MS students are getting a monthly stipend of INR 12,400/-.
Students can also avail the financial assistantship from external funding agencies like UGC/CSIR/INSPIRE etc.
Industry/DAE fellowships are also available.

Ques. What is the minimum age to apply for the MS course at IIT Kanpur?

Ans. Students should be of at least 21 years of age before applying to this course. This is as per standard norms which is provided by the Education board as before applying for pre doctoral course students must have done masters. A student who has done 10+2+4 should be of at least 21 years of age.

Both IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur are well-respected institutions, known for their high-quality education and research. Comparing the two is already justified and saying that one institution is becoming the next of the other is more so. Both institutions have their strengths and areas of expertise. Yet, if I was to choose one I would have always gone for IIT Kanpur. Some points that favor my preference are as follows: The quality of coursework at IIT Kanpur is extremely challenging and will keep you on your toes always. It offers the best quality of education and you will learn much more than other IITs if you are regular to classes and take your academics seriously, The usual schedule of a student at IIT Kanpur is not always jammed, unlike the general opinion. The timings of the clubs align with the classes and you can take out time for both if you are good at managing your time well. Another challenging aspect of IIT Kanpur is its tough grading system, (10,8,6,4..) under which anything below 10 is 8. Thus you are under tremendous pressure to maintain your CGPA and is enough of a motivating factor. Overall, even if Guwahati was to be compared to IIT Kanpur, it still has a long way to go until it becomes the next IIT Kanpur.

For example, if you are someone who considers Academics the most important factor to determine the credibility of an institute, then IIT Kanpur is the best choice for you. It has the toughest grading system and the entire focus is on studies. So if you are excellent in academics, you will remain at the top here. Both institutes face a certain level of locational disadvantage but IIT Kanpur is still slightly better in this aspect.

So, it’s easier for students to communicate with teachers. If you are interested in Machine Learning and AI, then IITM will be the better option. CSE Prof. Balaraman Ravindran has been featured in reputed business magazines. IIT Madras placements are excellent for CSE. On an overall scale, IIT Madras is better. It is an old IIT with a great placement record. IIT Madras Research park is one of a kind. It is the first university-based research park in India. IITM collaborates with many industries for R&D. The institute has an excellent start-up culture. If you have a good start-up idea, you will get the guidance and resources required from the institute. IIT Madras placements are great. During the 2022 placement drive, the highest CTC stood around INR 1.98 CPA. The average CTC for the institute is INR 21.48 LPA. IIT Madras offers an enviable campus life. The fests and clubs are amazing. IIT Madras campus used to be a part of Guindy national park.
