Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Electronics and Telecommunications is a postgraduate degree in engineering. It is the allied branch of engineering in electronics department. Most of the Engineering Colleges in India offer this course in same or its allied branches. The course uses applied tools of science and mathematics to develop electronics in communication systems.
The basic eligibility of this course is to hold a bachelors degree, B.E or B.Tech with a bare minimum of 50% or any other equivalent engineering degree. The tuition fee for this course is around 50-70k in government colleges and 3-4 lakhs in private institutions. Admission to this course is generally done on the basis of GATE score.
At the end of this course, one would be able to work with government organisations like DRDO, ISRO, Civil Aviation, Defence and can also work well with private firms in IT sector, entertainment sector, media houses, consulting. One can get into private firms or government institutions at the end of the programme. Work profiles which the students usually get are , Service engineer, Technical director, professor etc. Average starting salary after this course is around 3-4 lakhs.
This programme teaches the way how different components of a system interact with each other .This course gives them an edge over others and give them the analytical skills and competence to deal with complex systems.Electrical engineers along with communications knowledge design the transmitters and receivers of the communication systems.
M.Tech. in Electronics and Telecommunications is a course where the students learn about all the components of electrical and communications equipment. It includes study of Analogue communications, Digital Communications, Embedded Systems etc. Here, the students will be given sound grounding of electronic engineering plus the theory and applications of communication systems. Communications on the other hand is a major field and it compliments electrical engineering for designing , managing and installing telecommunication equipments.
It is because of electrical engineers in the field of communications that enables us to use digital products like cellular phones, television .
Anyone who has a passion for the subject and is really interested in making gadgets and circuits should opt for this course. This course has great prospects in manufacturing industries, data communications and every company or organisation because in any case , every organisation needs electrical gadgets. The curriculum teaches real time transfer of information through internet. Here, semiconductor devices are used to make electronics and also deals with transformation of information across channels such as fibre optics.
Colleges also provide other courses along with this , which can be in radio, satellite and cellular phones. The fundamental theories of electrical circuits provides skills of circuit and communication system design and development.
Duration of this course is mainly of two years divided into four semester of three months each. Every semester, students will choose elective subjects. And have to present a dissertation or a project in the last semester.
Students can also enhance their knowledge by pursuing higher education in this field. Research in this field includes further specializations. There are many universities in India which offer Ph.D. in electronics and its allied branches. Students after completing M.Tech can also go for research work in abroad.
M.Tech. in Electronics and Telecommunication is not offered by the same name in most of the engineering colleges, however colleges offer this specialization with different names with same curriculum. The CGPA to Percentage conversion formula in BPUT is as follows.
(CGPA - 0.5) * 10
Let’s say you have scored a CGPA of 8.5. The corresponding percentage for your CGPA is -
(8.5 - 0.5) * 10 = 8.0 * 10 = 80%
Here is a video explaining the same
You can easily calculate your percentage by following the above formula.
There is no such marking system at BPUT. They provide only grades and you cannot figure out how many marks you have scored in the examination. The grading system is as follows:
|
Grades |
Marks Range |
|
O |
90-100 |
|
E |
80-89 |
|
A |
70-79 |
|
B |
60-69 |
|
C |
50-59 |
|
D |
35-49 |
|
F |
Below 35 |
Here it is mentioned that O is the highest level. Grade C is considered to be an average grade. Grade D is the passing grade for theory and Grade C is a passing grade for Practical, seasonal, project, seminar, and viva voice. A student’s level of competence is measured by grade point average as semester grade point average and cumulative grade point average.
KIIT is the best college among these, in terms of placements. Reputed companies like Accenture, Wipro, Cognizant, etc. visit the campus drive each year. Here are the highlights of KIIT University 2022 placements.
| Parameters | Statistics |
| Average CTC | INR 6.05 LPA |
| Highest CTC | INR 52 LPA |
| No. of recruiters visited | 300+ |
| Offers made | 5,000+ |
SOA (ITER) ranks next after KIIT, in terms of placements. During the 2022 placement drive, SOA Bhubaneswar offered the highest CTC of INR 42 LPA.
You need to know that collecting transcripts from BPUT is a very long and tiring process. Following are the steps to collect transcripts from BPUT:
This process is the most tiring one but you need to be very patient while handling this phase. Once you receive the transcripts, you would feel a sense of achievement and a lot of relief.
As per the new rules declared in 2018-19, you must clear a total of 179 credits (regular) and 129 credits (LE) to get your degree. If your total credits are greater than the above-said criterion, you can definitely skip the extra credit subject if you want to. For example, if you have a total credit score of 182, then you can willingly skip 182-179=3 credit subjects.
Now, suppose you have skipped one of your exams. The SGPA calculation on skipping the exam would be as follows:
|
Grade |
Score |
|
O |
10 |
|
E |

A |

B |

The credit points per subject (CP) = Score* Credits of that subject
Credit Index (Sem)(CI)= Sum of all subjects*CP
Total credits (TC)= Total credit of each semester (Exclude the credits of the skipped subject)
SGPA=CI/TC.
This would be the new way to calculate your SGPA, once you skip an exam.
You always need to remember that if you are a student in BPUT, your syllabus is huge and the time period is very limited. You have to work on your own. Following are some tips and tricks for you to clear the BPUT exam:
You would definitely pass the exam with good grade points unless you have any attendance issues or backlogs.
