Placement Experience:

Our NIT Calicut follows strict rules in terms of placements. They completely abide by the rules to attract many companies to the campus. The students are supposed to sit for the placements in their 7th semester. Before they calculate the GPA of all six semesters they take as the basis for considering it as eligibility. Students with a GPA of 7+ will be eligible to apply for almost all the companies. Below that won't be able to apply for some of the companies. Last year the count of companies was 192 and the offers were made about 1300+. The highest package was 67 lpa from the department of CSE. The overall average package was 12 lpa. The overall percentage of students placed was 90%. My plan was after getting my degree, I was thinking of doing an MBA in good IIM after having sufficient work experience.

Remarks:

It all starts with class 12 In some state boards like Andhra pradesh and Telangana, it is called Intermediate education. After class 12 there will be an entrance exam called JEE. To attempt JEE one needs to have 75% weightage in the 12th board (65% for SC, ST). Then after taking JEE mains, you can go into NIT (National Institute of Technology), almost 10-12 lakh people will be attempting the test . Another exam is called JEE advanced for which the candidates have to be top in their respective category, almost 2.5 lakh people will be attempting the test. After Jee advanced if you secure a good rank like (1-1000) the student will be going to IIT ( Indian Institute of Technology). Admission process: After The examination there Autonomous body called JOSSA will handle all the admission procedures. In JOSSA there will be 6 rounds, and then that student will get the deserved seat in that deserved branch(course ).

From 3rd year of college students get eligible for ppo's. If you get PPO then you will get a job in that company. Nearly 200 companies visit our campus The highest package offered is 57 lakh and the average is 10 lakh

Remarks:

We need to write JEE mains and advanced exams based on that rank so we can get a seat according to our rank. I have obc reservation so it became somewhat helpful in getting a good seat. If you have any other reservation like SC ST you will have more benefits of fee concession also

Remarks:

I was admitted to the institute through the JEE examination which is held in 2022. I completed my matriculation with a percentage of 98%. After that, I took coaching on the site of Aakash platform. I gave my JEE attempts two times in the year 2022.

Placement Experience:

Campus placements are there if you cross the minimum CGPA mark. We have lots of big companies with the highest package being 50 laks(yeah CS) and 4 lakhs per annum idk which branch so the average is somewhere 14 lakhs p/a. Caterpillar, Infosys, Tata, Bajaj, Axis Bank many more you can go to nitc website for this there is a detailed report there. just check the website. My plan is probably MTech I don't know I am not studying enough for gata let see what happens.

Remarks:

My admission was through Jee Main CSAB round 2. The cut-off for mechanical brach was close to my percentile of 96.75. So luckily I got in my favorite branch. There's no application as such just follow JOSAA counselling steps, they tell everything from filling choices to getting your letter for admission. It is difficult to make correct choices of colleges and branches so research carefully and thoroughly.

The teacher will give so much knowledge about the design of old buildings and the history of the material used in construction. From semester 5 you are eligible for campus placements, there is a cut-off of 7.5 CGPA to sit in the placement drive conducted by the college, and you should not have any active backlog at that time. more than 267 companies were visited during placements in 2023. Which include Samsung, Deloitte, TCS, Accenture, and IBM a total of 759 offers were made. The average package is 9.8 lpa and median is 10.8 lpa.

Remarks:

There is no such application form for NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY CALICUT. You have to apply for jee mains and score good marks there and then you have to apply for JOSAA ( The Joint Seat Allocation Authority ) and there you have to fill in the choices of your wish. Application dates are as per the JOSAA, time table. The application fee for JOSAA counseling is 75k for general and OBC candidates and 35k for SC and ST candidates. Which 3k will be taken by them and the remaining will be sent to the college. Reservation is there in NITC as well, as it is a government-funded college where SC gets most then ST then OBC followed by EWS, and ends with general. The only thing I thought is paying the fee not in JOSAA, but to the college directly.

CS in BITS Goa is better. It offers better placements compared to NIT Calicut. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, IBM, Amazon, and Uber visit BITS Goa placements. The average CTC offered to CSE students in the campus placement is INR 15-20 LPA. Almost every student of the branch receives recruitment through the campus drive.

BITS offers better learning resources and facilities. The student crowd of the institute is excellent, owing to their no reservation policy.

I have a friend who recently graduated with M.Tech in VLSI Design from NIT Calicut. According to him, the placements are great. According to recent placement highlights, the average CTC offered at the institute is 11 LPA.

In order to secure decent placements, all you need is the following.

  • Knowledge of EDA tools of Mentor or Cadence or Synopsys.
  • Be skilled in RTL, Verilog coding.
  • Know basics of verification and design parameters for speed vs power vs area.

You also should have sound knowledge of Place and Route; extract parameters to compare or adjust design parameters with layout changes. The demand in this field is high. Work hard and you will succeed.

The placements for M.Tech is pathetic unless you are a CS/IT student. There are a lot of core companies that do not even allow PG students to sit for the placement. Even after this, the students might get sidelined and undergraduate students will be hired.

Students keep on preparing for the interviews and at the end, they are told at the last minute that PGs are not shortlisted. This also includes students with a good academic record and a good CGPA. While the irony is, the students are shortlisted based on their good academic record and good CGPA. A lot of students have experienced this personally multiple times.

CSE and ECE might have good placements. Intel usually takes a good number of M.Tech of VLSI for internships as well as grade 5 officers. But all others are not up to the mark according to them. However, if you would like to pursue Ph.D. after MTech and go into the field of teaching/research, rather than industrial jobs, the brand name of NIT Calicut is going to help you a lot.

There are certain solutions to this as well. You might be saved in this scandal if you manage to get an internship towards the end of your first year as it might lead to a permanent job, at the least. If you are planning to make your future in a corporate career, the students shouldn't stay on campus for their thesis, they must opt for an internship opportunity. This will help the students to grab a good offer at the least.

NIT Calicut boasts of impressive placement records with high placement rates and attractive salary packages for its students. In the year 2021-2022, the Biotechnology department had a placement rate of 89% with an average salary of INR 7 LPA. On the other hand, the CSE department had a 100% placement rate with a maximum salary of INR 69 LPA, placing it at the top of the salary hierarchy among departments. Other departments such as ECE, EEE, and MECH offered around the same salary packages.

During the NIT Calicut placements in 2022, a total of 193 companies visited the campus, resulting in a placement rate of 90.90%. The average package offered during the placements stood at INR 12.07 LPA, while the highest package offered was INR 67.62 LPA. According to media reports, the average package recorded during NIT Calicut placements in 2023 was INR 23 LPA, which is a testament to the institute's commitment to providing quality education and fostering the skills required to excel in the job market.

Overall, NIT Calicut is an excellent choice for students who want to pursue higher education and secure promising placements.

Is NIT Calicut a Tier 1 college?

By Deepika Kunwaron 26 Mar 21
KS

Kunal Sharma

26 Mar 21B.Tech Computer Science, National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2023)

The definition of a Tier 1 college may vary from person to person as it majorly depends on an individual’s opinion. Yet going by the general characteristics defined for a Tier 1 college, it can be successfully concluded that NIT Calicut is a Tier 1 college.

Category

NIT Calicut

Ranking

#23 by NIRF

Courses offered

B. Tech, B. Arch, M. Tech, MBA, M. Plan, M. Sc, PhD.

Entrance Exam Accepted

JEE Main, GATE, CAT, UGC-NET, JRF and NIMCET.

Highest Package

49.7 lakhs

Various reasons can be stated for the same –

  1. If we consider the NIRF as a major deciding factor then it can be seen that the college has seen a huge rise from 2018, and now it has shifted to the 23rd position.
  2. The courses, faculties including the facilities provided by the college are at par as to what you can expect from a top tier college.
  3. We can conclude that in the placement scenario, the college has seen a steady rise in the median and the highest package over the last couple of years. The median salary for last year stood around 8 lakhs per annum.

Hence, we can conclude that it is a tier -1 college and is far better than many IITs and NITs. As per the NIRF ranking, It stands at the 28th position all over India leaving behind IITs, NITs, and other colleges in the Engineering stream. Among the NITs, it stands at the top 5th position.

The college stands at 3 all over India, where only 2 IITs, i.e. IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur are better than it while among the rest of the colleges and the NITs, it is at the first position in Architecture. All of these facts further strengthen the argument that NIT Calicut is a tier -1 college in India.

It is good overall, but nothing beats the computer science department at any of the old IITs. Still, if you are not getting any of the main branches in IITs, you should go for it.

Alternatively, if you are really passionate about CS and you are not getting it in any IIT (which, I believe, is pretty obvious from your question), you should consider taking an NIT.

  • NIT Calicut is regarded as one of the best NITs, with a strong CS department.
  • You will have no problems with placements because they are quite good over there.
  • You can speak with any alumni or a current student over there, they are extremely cooperative.

Some important information regarding CSE at NIT Calicut are :

Total course fee 5.42 lakh
Placement rate 75%
Average salary package 8 lakhs
Highest salary package 36 lakhs

Many of my friends studied at NIT Calicut. According to them it is really good. If you do not get into IITs then NIT Calicut is the best option available for you.

How do I reach NIT Calicut?

By Aaditya Hari Nairon 26 Mar 21
SK

Shailja Khandelwa

26 Mar 21B.Tech. from National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2019)

Kerala is well-connected by road, rail, and air. NIT Calicut campus is located approximately 22 km from Calicut City (Kozhikode City) on the Calicut to Kunnamangalam to Mukkam Road.

Traveling By train:

  • Reach Calicut station and from there go to Palayam bus stand which is approximately 0.8 km away from the railway station.
  • From the Palayam bus stand, there you will get private buses every five to ten minutes to Mukkam via Kunnamangalam and NIT Calicut.
  • Ensure that you are getting a bus that goes via NIT. It will take 40 to 45 minutes to reach.

Traveling By Bus:

  • If you are going by bus to Calicut, go to the Mofussil Bus stand (Puthiya Bus Stand), at Mavoor road.
  • You can ask the nearby shopkeepers and go to the west side of the bus stand.
  • Get a bus that goes to Mukkam through NIT. These buses usually start from the Palayam Bus stand.

Alternatively, you also can take an Auto rickshaw from the west side, reach Palayam stand, and get a bus to NIT. Auto rickshaw price usually will be Rs. 350 to Rs. 400 from Calicut to NIT.

My brother has visited both institutes. So, I know a little bit about NIT Calicut and IIIT Bangalore. If you're talking about B. Tech in CSE, NITC is undoubtedly the best.

NITC remains ahead in terms of ranking compared to IIITB. But this doesn't necessarily mean that IIITB is not a good college. IIITB is a pretty new college and has only been offering M. Tech in IT for a long time, and this is one of the reasons why it does not have much recognition among students.

IIITB does not have a B. Tech program, but recently it started offering a 5-year Integrated M. Tech program. Right now, the second batch is about to pass. The first batch has passed out with remarkable achievements. IIITB has been more of an M. Tech-focused institute since its start. The faculties are really good here.

Placements: When it comes to placement IIITB gets the upper hand. Being situated in Bangalore, the college also attracts a lot of software companies.

Infrastructure: In terms of infrastructure, NIT Calicut is way better than IIIT Bangalore.

Academics:

  • IIITB focuses a lot on academics. The level of dedication and the hard work that both students and professors put in is commendable.
  • It has a coding culture much better than the NITC.
  • The senior-junior relationship in IIITB is great. Seniors put in a lot of time and effort into mentoring their own juniors, which you can never experience at NITC.
  • Also, the IIITBians won a lot of coding tournaments that had happened in Bangalore.

So, go through the above-mentioned points and make your decision wisely.
