In the NIRF 2023 Overall category the university held rank 101, and its Pharmacy discipline placed considerably higher at 30 in the same edition.

Enrolment at MSU exceeds 23,000 students drawn from countries worldwide, distributed across a large campus made up of many schools and departments. The application route is online via the university's own website. GUJCET results govern UG entry into Engineering and Pharmacy, with BE and BTech seats additionally open to JEE Main scorers; CMAT, CAT, GATE, GPAT and NEET PG results feed into MBA, MTech, MPharm and MS selection wherever applicable. Depending on the programme, remaining UG, Diploma, PG and PG Diploma seats may be filled through written tests, personal interviews, counselling or qualifying examination merit, while doctoral candidates clear an institute-level test followed by an interview. MSU Baroda Cutoff 2024

Two admission routes operate side by side here, one merit driven and the other entrance driven. At the UG level, the qualifying bar shifts with the chosen programme and with the applicant's category, whether General, OBC, SC or ST. No entrance test stands between candidates and a BA or B.Sc seat, though the prescribed eligibility conditions and the minimum 10+2 marks still apply. Engineering and Pharmacy at the UG level work differently: GUJCET scores decide the shortlist and counselling follows, and BE plus BTech aspirants may also come in on JEE Main scores.

At the PG level, what matters is how a candidate performs in the relevant entrance examination, whether CMAT, CAT, GATE or GPAT. Reservation category and the number of seats on offer can move the bar further, and the figure itself is not uniform across MSU institutes and departments.

For General category candidates, expected BE closing scores by GUJCET rank are set out here.

BE CoursesGUJCET Cutoff
Computer Science and Engineering900097
Mechanical Engineering900985
Chemical Engineering901190
Civil Engineering901672
Electrical Engineering900503
Textile Engineering913298
Electronics Engineering900484
Metallurgical and Material Science910836
Textile Technology906260
Textile Processing Engineering903042

GUJCET scores form the basis of UG Engineering and Pharmacy admission, and Engineering seats are open to JEE Main scorers as well. National and state level examinations such as CMAT, CAT, GATE, GPAT and NEET PG are the yardstick for PG applicants targeting MBA, MTech, MPharm and MS. Written tests, personal interviews, counselling rounds or marks in the previous qualifying examination are used across a number of UG, Diploma, PG and PG Diploma courses. A PhD seat requires the applicant to clear the institute's entrance examination along with an interview.

Typically the sequence runs like this: fill in the online application, upload the academic and supporting documents that are asked for, sit the applicable entrance examination or selection round, then complete counselling or interview formalities where these apply. Only after merit, entrance scores and eligibility have been verified is the admission confirmed.

There are 4 hostels for girls;

  1. Pandita Gargi hall (PG)
  2. Kasturba Gandhi hall (KG)

3.Sarojini naidu devi hall (SD)

  1. Hansa Mehta hall (HM)

My friend is a pass out of MSU and she claims Hansa Mehta hall to be one of the best hostels. Some hostel facilities include

  • Housing and food are extremely affordable for anyone. Hostel fees are around Rs.7000 yearly.
  • Every hostel has its own mess and canteen. Food quality is average but provided at a very nominal price.
  • Hostel rooms are good, well-ventilated, and spacious.
  • You will be sharing the room with 4 other girls. Despite that, you will have your own bed, cupboard, table, chair, and other facilities.
  • Rooms are cleaned by the maids every alternative day so you don't have to worry about hygiene at all.
  • Each wing has 20 rooms and 5 common toilets and bathrooms. The condition of the bathrooms is average.
  • The hostel has a 24/7 wi-fi facility.
  • The location of the hostel is what makes it the most convenient one. Located in the center of the city it is surrounded by the railway station, bus station, mall, and local market. So you don't have to spend much money and time on transportation.

All these facilities make it the cheapest, safest, and best option for girls.

One of my friends studied in DDU and after gathering some information online, I can give you a proper comparison. Analyzing this you will be able to make your decision.

  • DDU has an edge over MSU, when comparing CSE departments.
  • MSU's programming events at their annual technical festival, FootPrints, was also disappointing.
  • They use outdated equipment in their labs and the overall competition was not as good as DDU.
  • The Computer Engineering course of DDU has programming languages and technologies early on in the 4 year duration and core CS theory subjects after, unlike MSU.
  • Java is taught in DDU in the 3rd sem but in MSU, it comes in the 6th.
  • Web technologies are introduced in DDU in the 4th sem unlike MSU .If you choose DDU, expect lots of exams and strict rules.
  • FootPrints at MSU happen at a much larger scale than DDU's Felicific.
  • The DDU schedule will keep you busy and focussing less on extracurricular activities.
  • MSU hostels have received a lot of student complaints. In comparison, DDU's hostel is more comforting.
Categories DDU MSU
Course Fee INR 6.08 lakh INR 6,000
Highest CTC 10 LPA 8 LPA
Average CTC 6 LPA 3.5 LPA
Recruiting Companies TCS, Infosys, Crest Data Systems, etc. TCS, Wipro, Infosys, etc.

It is suggested that you go for DDU instead of MSU. But finally it is your choice. Choose the one that meets your needs and requirements, as it will be easier to blend in.

MSU Baroda is a decent college for girls. All the departments have many girls. Some faculties like Home Science are predominantly all girls. The faculty of Commerce which is the largest faculty at MSU has a separate unit for only girls.

The best feature of MSU is that although a girl student can get admission to another co-ed unit of the faculty, they also have the option to study in a girls-only unit. Hence MSU is perfectly safe for girls.

In fact, to keep girls in the limelight in all areas, the post of vice president in student union elections is reserved for girls only.

One of my friends recently graduated from MSU Baroda. Let me share some of the points she mentioned about the college, which might also help go through your first year of college.

  • The faculty of MSU are highly skilled and experienced in their respective fields.
  • It will take some time to get used to the culture and the overall environment. If you are fluent in Hindi or Gujrati, adjusting here will be no problem.
  • It will take time to get used to the daily food also as they have their unique way of preparing them which is quite different in every other state.
  • The weather here is quite humid, if you are used to dry weather and extreme winters it could take some time adjusting.
  • MSU as a university is a very open and independently cultured place. You will have the complete freedom to explore the place and build your personality as well.
  • Many events are also held in the campus which brings everyone together. These include DJ nights, Navratri celebrations, and sponsored events.
  • The day of the exams are hectic and teachers prefer their students to mug up information rather than actually understanding it.

Overall it is a really nice place. In your first year you will get to interact with lots of students and will also have enough time to explore the place. After your first year the pressure of the studies increases so, it is suggested that you explore most during your first year.
