Established by the Government of India in 1965, Indian Institute of Mass Communication is affiliated to JNU, New Delhi. The institute offers Post-graduate Diploma Courses in Journalism in various disciplines namely– Hindi, English, Urdu, Advertising & Public Relations and Radio & TV Journalism. IIMC also offers International Program in Development Journalism.

Additionally, the institute conducts training in Media & Communication for officers of the Indian Information Services, Armed Forces and other Central and State Organizations including police and Para-military forces. The course is also open for professionals of non-government sectors.

Application form for one-year postgraduate diploma courses can be filled through both offline and online mode.
Candidates applying must have done graduation in any discipline.
Selection to the one-year diploma course is on the basis of entrance exam, Group discussion and interview.
Applicants of seventeen-week Development Journalism course must have at least 5 years of media experience.

Indian Institute of Mass Communication Post Graduate Diploma Courses Admission 2023

Indian Institute of Mass Communication offers one year Post Graduate Diploma courses in five disciplines. Candidates applying must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.

Applicants will have to sit for an entrance exam. Shortlisted candidates on the basis of performance in the entrance exam will be called for Group Discussion and Interview.

The entrance exam for Journalism courses (Hindi, English and Urdu) consists of questions from General Awareness, Aptitude and Mental Makeup, Language Capability, Analytical and Comprehension Skills, Sensitivity to social issues and Ethics and values.

The entrance exam for Advertising and Public Relations course consists of questions from General Awareness, Aptitude and Mental Makeup, Language Capability, Analytical and Comprehension Skills, Brand Awareness and recall, Social Consciousness and Lateral thinking Capabilities.

Final merit for admission will be based on combined marks obtained by the candidates in the written examination and in the interview /group discussion.

The weightage for the written examination and the interview/group discussion will be 85:15.

In each course, 5 seats are available in each course for NRIs/NRI-sponsored candidates.
Candidates applying should be born on or after August 01, 1992. Age relaxation of 3 and 5 years is given to OBC and SC/ST candidates respectively.
There will be a common entrance examination and common question paper for Journalism (Hindi/ English).
There will be separate entrance examinations and question papers for Urdu, Radio & TV Journalism, and Advertising & Public Relations.

Indian Institute of Mass Communication Diploma Courses Admissions 2023

Indian Institute of Mass Communication offers 17 weeks diploma course in Development Journalism for Non-aligned and Other Developing Countries.

Candidates applying must have done graduation in any discipline.

Application Process

For Post graduate diploma courses applicant can fill the application form online and also pay the fee online or download the application form, fill it and send it by post along with the Demand Draft for the application fee.

To fill the application form online, a candidate needs to follow below steps:

Visit the website www.iimc.nic.in.
Fill the application form. Upload necessary documents like photograph, signature.
Candidates can submit one Application Form for either Journalism (Hindi) or Journalism (English). For all other courses, there is a separate form.
Make payment of INR 1,200 through online mode.

For filling the application form through offline mode, a candidate needs to follow below steps:

Download the application form from www.iimc.gov.in.
Fill the application form using black ink only.
Paste recent passport size photograph, duly attested.
The applicant is required to fill all the columns carefully. A form not filled completely is liable to be rejected.
For application fee, make Demand Draft of INR 1,200 for General & INR 1,100 for SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped category candidates drawn in favor of "IIMC, New Delhi”.
Candidate must write his/ her name on the back of the Demand Draft.

Rati Aggarwal Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to a meritorious female student of the Hindi Journalism Course, based on the performance in the Entrance Exam.

Star TV Scholarship

This scholarship is given to the meritorious student of Radio & TV Journalism, based on his / her performance in the Entrance Exam.

Achin Ganguly Scholarship

Achin Ganguly Scholarship will be awarded to two meritorious students of Advertising & Public Relations, based on their performance in the Entrance Exam & final result after completion of the Course.

Jaswinder Singh Memorial Scholarship

One meritorious student each from Hindi Journalism and Radio & TV Journalism will b given this scholarship based on their performance in the Entrance exams and first-semester exam.

Persuing Journalism at Best Campus in India

What I Liked

IIMC Curriculum is pretty good for young professionals who just want to enter into the industry
Campus of IIMC is so beautiful. If you walk in the month of February and March in campus you will get definitely a wonderful experience there.

What I didn’t like

IIMC is India's top media institute but Infrastructure wise it needs improvement.
IIMC have hostels but seats are so few. Need to accomodate all enrolled students.
Asia's biggest media Library shuts after 8:00 PM that's not good. It can be improve.

Remarks:

Application for IIMC is under CUET. You have to Select Mass Communication Entrance paper of CUET PG. After filling the form you have to prepare for the examination, minimum before 01 month of the date. Reservation are there in the seats. EWS, OBC, SC, ST. There is an age limit for candidates with the relaxation according to there reservation category. Cut Off of Examination totally depends on how tough or easier questions are being asked in paper. There is no previous year cut off concept in this particular examination.

What is the cutoff for IIMC English journalism?

IIMC does not have a fixed cutoff for any courses including English journalism. The required cutoff changes every year. Also, the cutoff list is not available for the students.

IIMC is one of the most reputed media institutes in India. The college administration conducts their own entrance examination, which is really tough to creak. You can apply for admission at IIMC online through their official website.

Being a renowned media institute it has limited seats for the courses that are offered here. To secure admission you have to perform well in the subjective entrance procedure, taken by this college. If you secure the required cutoff only then you will get a call for an interview.

According to the reviews of old students, the cutoff required for admission to English Journalism at the institute in recent years was as follows.

OBC- 35
SC/ST- 22
General- More than 50 for IIMC New Delhi

The placement in IIMC New Delhi is decent, being a communication school run by the government. The table below gives the recently available data regarding the placement in IIMC, New Delhi.

Key Highlights:

Being a government-led institute, it offers good exposure to jobs after course completion. But, it is not always as expected.
Most students are not attentive to the lectures, yet they get good opportunities in the industry. The academic score doesn’t matter that much, it is one’s skill that counts.
Candidates getting admission in IIMC, New Delhi should have a decent clarity of thoughts, along with good writing skills and speaking ability for interviews.
A thorough understanding of the media industry and its way of working is essential for improving yourself. Reading multiple newspapers a day is essential, which the professors focus on. The skills developed in the 9-month course decide how the student will perform in job interviews.
Many students pt for courses in digital marketing and web analyst to acquire the skills needed in the industry. Even after clearing IIMC entrance, candidates fail to get jobs because the industrial experts understand the candidate’s capabilities and select them according to their needs.

The interview experience for IIMC varies from candidate to candidate, but there are certain aspects that get repeated very often and are asked to most candidates. Having a good enough idea about one’s own subject and being confident is the first necessity.

The points listed below are some basic highlights of the interview/GD round of IIMC, Delhi.

The interview does not go on for long. Maximum candidates have a 15-20 minutes discussion. For some candidates, it is seen to stretch for long if the panel wants.
The interviewer asks about the candidate's interests, educational background, work experience, and the candidate's vision to achieve his/her goal and expectations from IIMC for the same.
Generally, panelists ask similar questions more than once, in different manners, to check the authenticity of your answers. They may or may not ask any technical questions.
The motive of the panel is not to judge how much information you already have. They select candidates who want to make the best use of the 9 months of course and resources.
The interview revolves around questions like “why should we select you”, discussion on recent ad campaigns and their impact, your hobbies, expectation from the IIMC course.
Read the newspaper thoroughly on the day of the interview. There will be a question from it.

Being confident and honest is the ultimate strategy. It is better to assess what the panel wants, and answer accordingly.
