One of my close friends graduated from the CSE department of NIT Agartala. I have friends from NIT Silchar and NIT Mizoram as well. Based on what I heard from them, I will say that NIT Silchar is a better option. The reasons why NIT Silchar is better than the other two institutes are as follows.

  • NIT Silchar is ranked better than NIT Agartala and NIT Mizoram by NIRF.
  • NIT Silchar has a better placement record.
  • Students mostly prefer NIT Silchar over NIT Agartala and NIT Mizoram. So, it has a better opening and closing JEE/AIEEE ranks.

The difference between NIT Silchar and NIT Agartala is minimal. Both of these two are tier 2, old NITs and have similar pros and cons. NIT Silchar is marginally better than Agartala. However, the latter is catching up quite quickly.

NIT Agartala has the only supercomputer in the North East. ISRO has opened an incubation center in NIT Agartala, which is the first in India. Even, few companies choose to conduct joint placement drives for NIT Agartala and NIT Silchar.

So, there is not much difference between NIT Silchar and NIT Agartala. If you are getting your preferred branch at NIT Agartala, don’t choose NIT Silchar over it. As for NIT Mizoram, it is a fairly new institute and needs time to catch up with the other two institutes.

NIT Silchar is one of the top engineering colleges in India. Recently in NIRF Ranking by MHRD, NIT Silchar holds 46th rank among best engineering Institutes in the country.

My brother is from NIT Silchar and this is the best thing that ever happened to him. But also every institute has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Pros:

  • Weather: Pristine green and calm climate, No pollution, Beautiful lakes, and amazing tea gardens.
  • Professors: The teachers here are extremely friendly. They will advise you on your future choices and point you in the right direction.
  • Other Activities: Apart from your academics, you have the freedom to explore your hobbies or create new ones, develop other skills, go on a tour to nearby amazing places like Mizoram, Shillong, Sikkim, Twang, and so on.
  • Internet: The best thing among all facilities is unlimited internet access. Many colleges have high-speed internet, but they do not provide unlimited access without a time limit.
  • Placement: Many notable companies visit the campus every year for good placements like Samsung, Goldman Sachs, L&T, Flour Daniell, Snapdeal, Gammon, BPCL, HPCL, Reliance JIO, etc.
  • Start-up Culture: NIT Silchar has recently established a startup center under the Government of India to promote entrepreneurship among students and in surrounding areas, with the goal of being a Job Creator rather than a Job Seeker.
  • Festivals and Celebrations: All the festivals are celebrated on college campuses like Diwali, Bihu, Holi, etc. This college also organize cultural fests every year such as the Technical festival — Tecnoesis, Cultural festival, Incandescence and Posua, Management festival, Paarbon, Innovation festival.

Cons:

  • In-time for girls: Girls are not allowed to go out after 8 P. M.
  • Food: Be it mess or canteens or restaurants in the city you will crave good food. People will tell you about a few restaurants for their amazing food, but they will not tell you about their food serving time. But if you have Subway on your campus then there is no problem.

I hope my answer is helpful to you.

Beyond any doubt, IIEST Shibpur and NIT Silchar are good colleges but when it comes to the ranking IIEST Shibpur stands at 17th NIRF ranking while NIT Silchar at 53rd rank. It is better than NIT Silchar in terms of education, faculty, placements, and infrastructure.

  • The college has a very welcoming atmosphere and beautiful infrastructure situated near the banks of river Ganga.
  • The academics at the college are really worth it.
  • All the faculty members and all the students are studious.
  • You will get hands-on experience through various mini-projects assigned at the end of the first year and the knowledge gained on the various advanced topics is very helpful in the third year.
  • The campus of IIEST Shibpur is a completely ragging-free zone where no student is harassed and if any such case is found strict actions are taken immediately.
  • The hostel life is really worth remembering for all the students.
  • For the entire four years, you develop bonds with people from different regions, cultures, and financial backgrounds. This gives exposure to many different people that can develop your overall personality.
  • The food provided by mess is also up to the expectations of the students especially when you are non-vegetarian.
  • Many respected companies often participate in the placement drive every year. Many students get decent packages from companies like Microsoft, Accenture, Wipro, TATA, etc.
Categories IIEST Shibpur NIT Silchar
Course Fee 5.68 lakh 5.42 lakh
Highest CTC 35 LPA 21 LPA
Average CTC 15 LPA 10 LPA
Recruiting Companies Infosys, ZS Associates, Bosch, IBM, etc. Berger, HSBC, TCS, Cognizant, etc.

Lastly, we can say that among both the colleges, IIEST Shibpur is the best. So it will be better for your career if you choose to study at IIEST Shibpur rather than NIT Silchar.

IT from NIT Raipur is the best option among these. The institute offers good placement opportunities for IT and CSE. Each year around 100% of students get placed from the IT department. Reputed IT companies such as Samsung, MuSigma, Oracle Cloud, Cognizant, etc. visit the campus placements. According to the highlights of NIT Raipur placements, IT department has an average CTC of around INR 6.78 LPA.

You need to compare the two universities to make a decision between the two. Having friends studying in both the institutes, I might be able to help you with the question.

Metallurgy at NIT Rourkela:

  • Campus-wise, the college has a very large campus.
  • But, if you are planning to pursue metallurgy, let me tell you that you will have lesser job opportunities in both the public and private sectors in India.
  • You might have to shift to another country to get a well-paying job and earn decently in your field of study.

Electrical at NIT Silchar:

  • There are also some really good facilities here including the largest digital library in South Asia.
  • The campus is really good too.
  • The placement records are amazing. Moreover, electrical is an evergreen branch with decent scope in the public sector. This would surely make a good alternative.

For obvious reasons, IIT Bombay is a better choice than NIT Silchar.

  • Bombay has much more locational advantage than NIT Silchar
  • The teachers are experienced unlike in NIT Silchar wherein the teachers are still completing their PhDs from MIT, CalTech & Stanford.
  • IIT Bombay has higher JEE rankers even higher than NIT Silchar
  • IIT Bombay has much better companies that visit the campus for placements like Google, Microsoft, Credit Suisse, Intel, etc.
  • IIT Bombay has better infrastructure and amenities than NIT Silchar such as swimming pool and multiplexes.
  • IIT Bombay has better foreign exchange programs than NIT Silchar
  • IIT Bombay has richer research culture than NIT Silchar
  • The Mood Indigo fest is more vibrant and famous than the Incandescence fest of NIT Silchar

I would suggest you go for IIT Bombay over NIT Silchar any day.

Among the colleges present in the lot, I would advise you to choose NIT Silchar over NIT Agartala. I have a few friends at the institute and I have heard good things about the institute.

Here are a few of the reasons why NIT Silchar is a better alternative.

  1. IIIT Kota and IIIT Kalyani are pretty new and hence these are generally not the first choice.
  2. NIT Silchar provides some extraordinary facilities like a supercomputing center and exchange programs with the University of Illinois.
  3. For those who are interested in Computer networks, parallel algorithms, etc, and want to pursue their career in these fields, supercomputing provides a very good foundation to get into these fields during the undergraduate coursework.

The above reasons should be enough to choose NIT Silchar.

Without second thoughts, IIEST is better than all the colleges you mentioned. The institutes that are better than IIEST are the top 7 IITs, BITS Pilani, IISc.

The leading factor of IIEST that sets it apart from other colleges is its extensive research strategies. Some have been highlighted below:

  • Developed India's First Smart Grid

  • Developed Solar Rickshaw for Howrah Municipal Corporation

  • CEGESS centre at IIEST is among the Best in India in areas of clean energy and sensors systems.

  • IIEST has collaborations with University of Queensland, University of Hiroshima, University of South Wales, Hokkaido University, Zurich University among others

Other amazing facts include:

Research Projects: Rs. 47 Crores

Consultancy Projects: Rs. 13 Crore

Publications : 2000

Citations : 5000

All this has been achieved by only 220 faculties in less than 3 years.

If IIEST is worthy of comparison to any of the colleges you have mentioned then it is NIT Jalandhar. The academic excellence is very similar. But other colleges don’t even stand in the race to compare.
