Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank held a meeting with the Education Secretaries from all states in which he spoke at length about the current situation, online education, and the readiness of all states to implement the National Education Policy, NEP 2020. The meeting began at 11 AM and was held virtually.

While many were expecting an announcement about the CBSE 12th Board Exams 2021, no such announcement was made. Though the ministry has not agreed to cancel the exams, it has not dismissed the possibility. The Education Minister turned to the states seeking a suggestion on the matter.

CBSE had announced that the decision on conducting the class 12 board exams will be taken following a review scheduled after June 1, 2021.

Earlier on Friday, the Education Ministry stated that the CBSE exam decision is expected by May 24 – 25. CBSE also stated on Friday that no decision had been made as of yet and that once confirmed, the public would be notified.

Aside from the CBSE Class 12 Board Exams 2021, the primary focus of the meeting was a discussion of the current situation. All students in the country's education have been impacted. Every student and scholar has been impacted by lockdowns and examination delays, from nursery admissions to PhD level courses.

During the meeting, the following suggestions were made:

  • To ensure continuous education, a COVID action plan will be implemented.
  • Bharat NET will be used to connect all of the schools.
  • Secondary school students will be given digital devices.
  • The 'Manodarpan' portal must be used effectively to ensure the mental wellness of students and teachers.
  • Grief sessions will be held at the appropriate locations.

The situation appears to have deteriorated with the second wave. The majority of states have postponed their Class 12 Board Examinations and have decided to cancel the Class 10 Board Examinations entirely. Everyone applauded the decision to postpone CBSE Class 10 Board exams. Students and parents are now requesting that the Class 12 board exams be cancelled as well.

More information about the Class 12 exams will be released soon. Students are also anxiously awaiting news on the NEET exam and other competitive exams.

Schools have been closed across the country, with many announcing early summer vacations. With the current situation and the possibility of a third wave affecting students, reopening schools appears to be impossible at this time. As a result, the emphasis is now on how to improve online education and ensure learning for all.
