What was his preparation strategy?

He suggests to make different strategies for all the sections. For the quantitative section, he says that practice is the key. Even if this section is one’s strength, regular practice is inevitable in the preparation process. Similarly, for the verbal section, reading articles, newspapers, etc. helped him a lot. This also helped him with the general knowledge section as he was updated with the current affairs.

Logical ability is the weak point for many aspirants and so was his, which is why he gave a lot of time to it. The decision-making section, on the other hand is relatively new for him so Career launcher’s guidance proved beneficial for him.

Which sources of preparation would he suggest to the future aspirants?

The book that he practiced from was “How to Prepare for Quantitative Aptitude for CAT” by Arun Sharma, which is what he suggests to all students taking the exam soon. In this book, chapter-wise concepts have been explained and there are a lot of examples and difficulty levels to go through. Read: How to Prepare for CAT using Arun Sharma.

Other than that, he solved a lot of previous year question papers that he found online. Career Launcher’s mock tests and sectionals helped him analyze his performance.

How useful were mock tests for him?

As the day of the exam got closer, he went through a lot of mock tests as they helped him to manage his timing. He analyzed the time spent on each mock test for improving his time management during the exam. He could focus on the weaker sections because of this and adjust his strategy accordingly. The maximum benefit of solving a mock test was getting an upper hand in the logical ability section.

How beneficial was coaching for him?

The maximum benefit that he reaped from his career launcher program was with the tips and mock tests that they took at regular intervals. He was always on the go but it was his coaching that helped him maintain a bit of regularity.

What strategy did he follow while attempting the exam?

There wasn’t any particular order in which he answered the questions. As the questions appeared on his computer screen, he answered them based on his strength. First, he was focussed on solving the ones that seemed easy to him. Later on, he moved on to the more time-consuming ones. His motto was to balance accuracy and speed and not to make mistakes and avoid negative marking. He was most careful with the decision-making section.

What is your one most important tip for the aspirants?

Preparing for an exam like XAT is a tiring process, so it’s essential to keep calm and maintain the confidence level. Relaxation is very important according to him. He says that aspirants should stick to the schedule and practice regularly while taking breaks in between. The candidates should find a schedule that suits them and then follow it with no deviations for the entire time they are preparing. He had to balance between his work and studies but the ones who have the benefit of studying properly should use it to the best.
