Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently changed the rule for issuing migration certificates. Following the new rule that CBSE has come up with, the migration certificates will be issued only to those students who request them to the board. The same will be effective from 2021. While from the year 2024, the board will completely stop issuing hard copies of migration certificates.

CBSE has developed the infrastructure to provide soft copies of the migration certificates on DigiLocker. Accordingly, it has been decided that a hard copy of the migration certificate will be issued only to the students who would make a request for the same to the board, otherwise soon the result will be declared, and the soft copy of the migration certificate will be made available on DigiLocker,” the board said.

The board also informed that not only the migration certificates but CBSE will also provide marks sheets and pass certificates through DigiLocker.

CBSE releases the migration certificates after the declaration of class 10th and 12th board exam results. The board had partnered with DigiLocker in 2019, a Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) initiative to provide digital certificates to the students.

Students will be able to obtain any CBSE documents on DigiLocker, students are required to sign up with their credentials. Last year, the board exam result of CBSE was released through DigiLocker, apart from the official website.

In order to get a hard copy of the migration certificate, the students will have to send only one valid photo identity like - Voter ID Card, Aadhaar Card, a Driving License or a bank passbook along with an application to the board.

A migration certificate is a significant document verifying that a person was a student of that particular board. The document is essential for any student who changes board after class 10 and for those who are applying for higher education.
