This year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has finally proposed two alternative options for conducting the postponed Class 12 board exams.

CBSE

On Sunday, a high-level virtual meeting chaired by Union Ministers and Education Ministers was conducted, where the proposal was evaluated. The first option was where the class 12 board exams can be either conducted for the selected subjects in a designated exam center according to the conventional policy or exams of shorter duration can be conducted in the student's own schools.

Recently, the CBSE postponed the class 12th board exams owing to the surge in the Covid-19 cases across India. Unlike the class 10 board exams being cancelled, the CBSE decided to review the Covid-19 situation and conduct the Class 12 board exams. As per the source, the final decision regarding this matter will be taken by the 1st week of June 2021.

Class 12 Board Exam 2021: Option A

In the proposal, the CBSE has stated that this year, the class 12 board exams can be conducted with only major subjects in limited exam centers. The following are the key takeaways which are,

  • Class 12 board exams will be held in limited exam centers.
  • The exam will be conducted only for major subjects, i.e, only 19 major subjects
  • Based on the performance in major subjects, the merit for minor subjects will be calculated.
  • It will take a month for the CBSE for the pre-exam activity. Thus, the total process of conducting the class 12th exams and releasing the results will probably take another 2 months
  • This way of conducting the exams will be only possible if there's three month of safe and available time.
  • Class 12th exams are expected to be conducted in the month of July-August and the result will be released within September 2021.

Class 12 Board Exams: Option B

If three months of safe and available time is not feasible, the CBSE has proposed Option B to conduct the Class 12 board exams. Go through the key points listed below.

  • Instead of the exam centres, the students will have to appear for the class 12 board exam 2021 in their own schools.
  • The exam will be held for 19 major subjects only.
  • The total duration of the exam will be reduced,i.e, the exam will be conducted for 90 minutes, instead of 180 minutes.
  • Students will be allowed to take the exam for three elective subjects and one language subject.
  • Based on the performance in the language and elective subjects, the merit of the students in the 5th and 6th subjects will be determined.
  • The exam pattern will be either Multiple choice questions or Short answer type questions
  • Based on the Covid-19 situation, the exam will be held in more than one phase.
