FORE School of Management is among the top institutes of India in all the domains including ROI, infrastructure, practical exposure, and one of the highly-rated PGDM colleges. It is among the top 10 B schools in northern India. Being a student of this institution, I can share some facts which might be beneficial.

  • It is beneficial as it provides international exposure as well.

  • For students an international professional short-term study tour is organized.
  • The profiles Business Analyst, Global Sales, and Marketing Strategy are offered to the PGDM-IB students in the campus placements.

If we compare PGDCM and PGDM at IIM Calcutta, we see that both the courses have the same networking, placements and even infrastructure.

Now if you compare both the IIMs, IIMC and IIML, there is hardly any difference in the curriculum or even placements. So deciding which IIM to go for depends on your own preferences.

But if you are planning to quit IT then I suggest going for the full-fledged MBA course from IIM Lucknow rather than a system at IIM Calcutta.

IIM Lucknow will offer excellent exposure and placements and you will end up getting an above average salary package for consulting.

A specialization in any field be it Information Management or Finance, will limit your job prospects whereas a general PGDM will keep your options open. By choosing the IM specialization you can expect the following roles

  • Consulting (strategy, operations, technology)
  • Sales/pre-sales (software)
  • Product managers
  • IT managers (corporate IT roles)
  • Analytics
  • Banking

If these are exactly the kind of roles you were looking for, then specialization in IM is not a bad option. But if you want to explore more fields then PGDM is best for you.

It’s important to note that these roles will automatically be offered to you even if you choose the MDI Gurgaon PGDM course in addition to other job profiles in Marketing, Finance, Ops, etc.

So choosing PGDM will keep your options open, whereas choosing SP Jain will limit your options as you have to stay committed to your specialization both in terms of what you learn and what jobs you are looking for. However, if you are choosing SP Jain because of personal preferences like location, batch size, brand name, or course, then it is altogether a different topic.

Yes, there is a possibility of getting a job in Finance or Consulting despite having a specialization in Information Management. The chances are low though and vary for every role.

Consulting: It is a very broad domain and comprises both Functional (Operations, Finance, HR) and Industry area (Automotive, FMCG, Electrical, Oil and Gas). The interviews for consulting roles revolve around the projects that a company is involved in. Hence, your specialization in Information Management is irrelevant.

There are many companies with dedicated BUs/areas for IT/Tech Consulting. They give r more preference to IM specialization and students with prior exposure and experience in technology.

Apart from consulting, other domains like Marketing, Operations, and Finance have little scope for IIM specialization. This is because companies prefer candidates with prior experience or current specialization in the required area.

My advice to you would be to select your minor specialization as your area of interest. So it’s possible to get a job in consulting despite having IM specialization but the probability is low for most of the domains.

Completing a specialization in a particular field can present many exciting career opportunities for a candidate. In the case of Information Technology, there are several career tracks that an individual can pursue. These include roles in Corporate IT, Consulting, Digital Businesses, Analytics, and IT Services and Products Management.

Each of these roles is at a mid to senior leadership level and is highly sought after by multinational corporations. These companies typically offer attractive compensation packages, including competitive salaries and benefits.

It is also worth mentioning that the institution offering the specialization program, in this case, SPJIMR, is among the very few that undergo a CRISIL audit. This level of scrutiny provides assurance to potential employers and highlights the high-quality education and training received by the candidate. The CRISIL audited report can be accessed on the SPJIMR website for those who are interested in learning more.

In conclusion, pursuing a specialization in Information Technology opens the door to many rewarding and lucrative career opportunities. With the right education, training, and experience, an individual can build a successful career in the dynamic and fast-paced world of technology.

If you're interested in the IM specialization at SPJIMR, you'll learn that it's a unique blend of IT and traditional business. This intersection is the foundation of most of the course content, which will equip you with the skills necessary to succeed in this field.

The companies that hire graduates from this specialization are diverse, ranging from technology giants like Microsoft and e-commerce companies to traditional businesses that are integrating IT systems and consulting firms.

While work experience is not a strict requirement for admission into the program, it's important to note that your chances of landing a job in this field without any work experience are limited. To increase your chances, it's recommended that you have between 1.5 to 3 years of work experience in a related field. This will help you stand out during the recruitment process and make you a more desirable candidate for potential employers.
