Remarks:

The admission process was so smooth to be very precise. Initially, we will be shortlisted based on the cutoff marks of our 12th grade. After that, there will be an entrance examination which has two papers they are aptitude and another paper with maths, physics and chemistry questions. They are easy and tricky at the same time. If we are selected they send us an email for the next process which is an interview. The fee structure can be seen in the official site SSN and if any queries we can contact the officials by phone

The hostel life at SSN College of Engineering is worth remembering. It is a place that unites all the students and builds innumerable memories apart from different cultural and financial backgrounds, therefore giving you a family-like feeling away from your home. There is complete privacy and freedom for all the students.

  • All the hostellers are attracted by the ambiance and at the same time, the hostel gives a complete study environment to all the students.
  • You end up making lots of friends with whom you can interact and exchange gossips regarding the various happenings.
  • There are different groups with whom you can debate on topics like cricket, or football leagues, discussing things regarding studies and whatnot.
  • The mess is not that good so students eat mostly in various cafes or streets building memories with friends.
  • Battling for water is one of the funniest incidents that often happen in the hostel. Students don't take bath for 2-3 days, which is considered part and parcel of college life.
  • The rooms are well-ventilated with comfortable cots so that the students feel very lazy and sometimes miss the morning class.

The hostel life at SSN College of Engineering is full of freedom, it is solely your responsibility to use that in a particular way. You should create a perfect balance between your fun and studies and at the same time, you can enjoy college life to the fullest.

You will be shortlisted based on your board score. The selection process is followed by a computer-based aptitude test and a personal interview session. My friend appeared for this exam and she had mentioned that the mathematics section was taken from JEE Main and there were certain questions based on logic.

The interviewers would ask for certain proofs of whatever you have accomplished. So, you would have to carry along your certificates as they ask about your participation in extracurriculars and look at the certificates as proof. These certificates can be of anything you have partaken in dancing, singing, drama or any other activity you like.

In the interview, they will consider things like your JEE marks, passions, and ambition in life. Plus, the obvious- why do you want to take admission in SSN College, and what all options do you consider as your backup options. This entire interview process checks what kind of a person you are in terms of talent. It will be an advantage if you can speak fluently in English.

NIT Trichy is the better option. It is better than SSN Chennai in terms of academics, infrastructure, peer group, and campus life. The student crowd of NITT is amazing. You will share your lectures with talented students and get to learn from them. It has a good placement record as well. According to NIT Trichy placements 2022, the average CTC received by the students was INR 6.5 LPA.

Although as a branch ECE is more preferred by students, given a chance you should choose NIT Trichy.

Instrumentation & Control Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering are different branches. Although, both of these branches have some similarities. To choose between both of these is your choice.

Here are some of the facts about NIT Trichy and SSN.

  • Faculty: SSN has amazing teaching faculty. They have quality teachers, some better than in NIT Trichy.
  • Ranking: SSN is one of the premier institutes in Tamil Nadu and NIT Trichy is among the top-ranked NITs in the country.
  • Extracurricular activities: SSN gives equal importance to academics and extra-curricular activities as well. They focus on overall development. In NIT Trichy, a lot of extracurricular activities are held. Fests are organized almost every week. They focus too much on extracurricular.
  • Campus: SSN is lush green and has a scenic beauty. NIT Trichy has a rocky campus and does not have much greenery, although they do have a beautiful college avenue road.
  • Placements: The placements of NIT Trichy are better than SSN, however, the Average CTC is almost the same. Here is the placement highlight of the year 2020.

One of my relatives happened to choose SSN. She has visited the campuses of both the colleges namely, Anna University and SSN. She told me that SSN was way ahead of AU in many aspects. Some amazing features of SSN are:

  • Amazing infrastructure with top notch Wi-Fi facilities

  • Diverse crowd which helps you get more exposure

  • SSN does not force its students to attend classes

  • SSN emphasises on the overall development of its students and fulfilling their dreams

  • Good hostel facilities

My relative completed her M.E. from SSN and went to CEG to pursue PhD. She regrets this decision a lot. She had listed so many shortcomings of CEG. Some of them have been listed below.

  • Lack of proper sanitation facilities

  • No emphasis on extracurricular activities or club activities

  • Lack of transport facilities

So SSN focuses more on quality rather than quantity.

If SSN College of Engineering becomes an autonomous college under Anna University, the current students will be entitled to the following benefits:

  • Students will be free from the messed up revaluation criteria

  • They will have liberal attendance rules

  • Organised exam schedules

  • Internal marks

  • More focus on focus on extra-curricular, sports and club activities

  • Application oriented learning

  • Increase in popularity of the college among student communities

So becoming an autonomous institution will bring in a lot of benefits to its current students provided that the management conducts a thorough research on what measures need to be adopted to really raise the quality of education. SSN will change its ideology of being conventional to being practical.

Amrita University is a deemed university whereas SSN is an autonomous institute in Chennai, affiliated with Anna University. I have friends in both universities and according to their first-hand experience, Amrita has a slight edge over SSN. While both colleges offer good quality education, here are some reasons why you should prefer Amrita University.

  • Amrita University is one of the country’s top deemed Universities. It has a syllabus and curriculum which is on par with IITs and NITs.
  • Especially if you want to pursue CSE, consider studying at Amrita University’s Amritapuri campus. There you can grab some great opportunities for CSE if you are willing to work hard.
  • You will also get a lot of research activities going on at Amrita University that might help you with higher studies if you are planning to.

Overall, both the colleges are great in terms of education and facilities. However, Amrita University is the best choice when it comes to TNEA colleges except for Anna University, Guindy. At the end of the day, all that matters is your hard work and passion for the subject.

Having known some people studying in both these institutes, I can assure you that they both have equally good CSE departments. The placement companies visiting both Madras Institute of Technology and SSN College of Engineering offer top-notch packages. Software companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, and many more visits during their placement drives.

Here are some facts about MIT and SSN that will give you a basic idea about the institutes:

  • In SSN, the faculty members will guide you through every step.
  • In MIT, you are mostly on your own. The faculty will give you a basic idea but ultimately it is your hard work that will matter the most.
  • SSN has a better college atmosphere than MIT. It is more student-friendly.
  • Students at MIT get thumbs up in terms of going home anytime.
  • The brand value of MIT is more than SSN.
  • The infrastructure at MIT and SSN are both top-notch.
Categories CSE at MIT CSE at SSN
Course Fee 2.00 lakh 2.20 lakh
Highest CTC 31 LPA 35 LPA
Average CTC 6-12 LPA 13-14 LPA
Recruiting Companies Infosys, IBM, Mindtree, Bosch, etc. HP, Deloitte, Adobe, HCL, etc.

If you want to enjoy your college life without any major concern about the college lifestyle then you can go for SSN. If you are hardworking and obedient and do not prefer a happening college life, then you can choose MIT.

Both of these are premier institutes of Chennai, you should think about what you want and choose accordingly.
