Coimbatore Marine College (CMC) is the first marine college that was established in Coimbatore in 2001. CMC is approved by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India and affiliated to Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai.
It has been ranked with an A1 Grade in CIP by the Indian Registry of Shipping. The college is also ISO 9001:2015 Certified by Bureau Veritas. This college has been regarded as one of the leading premier Marine Institutes in Coimbatore since 2001.
CMC has a ship on its campus called TS Clarissa, which is designed and built on the real-time model. The ship offers visualization and gives a hand on experience to students of how a ship actually works. There are simulators for bridge operations and automation as well.
There are different courses related to Marine Science and Engineering that are offered at CMC at present. The students can opt for B.Tech, B.SC, BBA, Graduate course in Marine Engineering and MBA. Admissions are offered mostly on the basis of entrance exam and ranking obtained in it.
For admission to B.Tech in Marine Engineering, students should have passed class XII with PCM as compulsory subjects, and an overall aggregate of 60%. The students must also qualify IMU-CET to be eligible for admissions.
Admission to B.Sc Nautical Science is offered to those applicants who score 60% in class XII and had PCM as compulsory subjects. They must also prove to have scored 50% in English at either X or XII level. They must also qualify the IMU-CET to be eligible for admissions.
BBA in Logistics and Shipping admissions are offered to those students who have passed 10+2. MBA in Logistics and Shipping admissions are given to those students who have a relevant undergraduate degree in any discipline and have qualified IMU-CET.
The graduate Marine Engineering admissions are given to students who have 50% in B.E/B.Tech degree in a relevant field. They must also appear for the MEO Class II & IV Part-A CoC Exam to be eligible for admissions.
Placements for 2018-19 pass-outs have touched 88%. The college’s consistent effort to offer its students with on and off-campus interviews and special preparatory classes by experts to train students has increased the placement percentage for the 2018-19 session.
