Between Calcutta University and Presidency University for a PG, you should opt for Presidency University. Having studied in Calcutta University, I suggest you go for Presidency instead.

  • Calcutta University is known to provide low marks to students.
  • The teachers are part of the board or question setter which doesn't give good marks and a student has to study under them.
  • Apart from this, there are certain colleges that, to improve their grades, give good marks to the students.
  • Both of these cases are not good. Along with this, the marks get worse as the answer sheets are not checked by the college faculty and are instead checked by someone else.
  • The Presidency won over these things. A student scores good marks in Presidency.
  • The teachers are not that strict and they only check the answers sheets.
  • As it's only the college teachers who do the questions and answers work in the exam, once getting familiar with them will help a student score well.

Therefore, it's better to opt for Presidency University. Due to its better faculty, facilities and overall experience.

One of my friends was a student of the IEM thus, he had his reasons to make a choice among all the given options which might help you choose a college for yourself.

Instead of enrolling for any college under WBJEE, you can try to go for IITs. If you have no luck there, then you should opt for government colleges such as CU, JU, and KGEC.

Talking about IEM, you should know IEM provides a good opportunity for the students with all the favorable benefits.

Apart from this, Heritage Institute of Technology is not a good choice as the crowd of students doesn’t have any standards. Most of them are enrolled by the management quota. You may also go to other colleges like Techno Main Saltlake otherwise, you can also choose GCETT Serampore, near Kolkata, as it is also a good college.

The cutoff for colleges in Kolkata is quite high. With 85-90%, you should get into good colleges under Calcutta University. But here are some things that you should keep in mind.

  • As the number of students applying is way more than the number of colleges, chances are you won’t get selected through the first or second round.
  • The colleges release multiple counseling lists. So, you need to wait. As many students withdraw their admission, leaving seats vacant.
  • If you aren’t confident about getting admission, apply to as many colleges as you can to keep your options open.
  • You can always take admission at a college you are easily getting into and withdraw when you get selected in your preferred college.

Also, you always have the option to get admission into private universities.

Calcutta University offers some of the best education possible in the country. It consistently maintains an admirable ranking among the top universities in India.

  • Your CV can get a big boost if you opt for the University of Calcutta.
  • There are other institutes in Kolkata that are just as good as CU such as Presidency University, Jadavpur University St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous). Keep an eye on them as well and do not restrict yourself only to CU.
  • Engage yourselves in the various activities that will take place wherever you end up getting admission.
  • The more proactive you are, the more your resume will attract potential employers.

Vidyasagar University has more expertise in tribal culture and literature. It is not the focus of urban academics. Keep in mind that the marking scheme of the University of Calcutta is very rigid.

Calcutta University's syllabus is standard when compared to Burdwan University. However, it will not help you get good grades, instead, it will develop you in a better way. CU will provide the proper exposure as it is India's first state university with 150+ institutions.

  • If you study in CU and get a 50% or higher on your exams, you are considered to be a good student.
  • Students generally choose Calcutta University over other institutions because there are few good colleges affiliated with universities.
  • The university has switched to a semester structure since last year. So, improved grades can be expected, with quality education.
  • More than 130 colleges are connected with CU. Not all of them are good.
  • Scottish Church, Bethune, Victoria, St. Pauls, Jaipuria, Vidyasagar, and Maulana Azad are just a few of the famous colleges affiliated with CU.
  • These colleges are available to you. You may expect high-quality education here.

For achieving good academic scores, You can also enroll in other institutions such as Burdwan University (Chandannagar College is a great institution), Rabindra Bharati University, or private universities like Techno India or UEM. They are a bit expensive, yet they not only deliver good marks, but also placement prospects. So the choice is yours, if you want to go to CU opt for it or if not go for other colleges.

Choosing between Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) and Calcutta University (CU), is not justified, as they are both reputed institutions and have more or less the same performance.

Their curriculum will be different, along with their teaching style. But both will provide you with similar opportunities after graduation.

CU students claim that it is very difficult to score good marks here, but since the semester system started in CU, it has become manageable.

So choose the college you feel suits all your requirements, then go for the one. The one thing better in CU is the environment, because RBU has been in constant disputes and political turmoil, which sometimes hampers regular classwork.

University of Calcutta and Kalyani Government Engineering College are both terrific colleges. There are certain precise points that draw out the best in these institutes.

  • Faculty: Both the institutes have well-established faculty units. Kalyani Government Engineering College has around 9 faculty members in electrical engineering whereas the University of Calcutta has more than 12 faculty members in the chemical engineering department.
  • Academics: The academics at KGEC is decent and the labs are well equipped too. The electrical department is one of the most relaxed branches and does not burden students with assignments. The students are provided with higher marks in practical papers in comparison to other branches. The major GATE rankers at KGEC are from the electrical engineering department.
  • Higher Studies: Electrical engineering being a core branch provides better offers to you than chemical engineering. This branch makes available more seats in the government sector.
  • Placement: CU provides more placement opportunities than KGEC. The 4-year B. Tech course even provides an almost similar level of placements and sometimes even better.

Since this concerns your career, you must take some time before concluding a decision. Whichever branch you opt for it is you who has to study for 4 years, therefore, make a wise choice that you would not regret later.

  • CU has more national recognition as compared to North Bengal University.
  • The exposure you will get at CU is unparalleled.
  • CU is an older university compared to North Bengal University.

Although you can excel in your academics from any university, choosing a better one will provide you with more exposure. So, if you are interested in pursuing a degree in Law, I will suggest that you choose CU.
