The University of North Bengal (UNB), Darjeeling, commonly known as North Bengal University (NBU) was established by an act of 1962 by the Legislature of West Bengal. NBU comprises two campuses situated at Raja Rammohunpur near Siliguri and at Danguajhar in Jalpaiguri.
It currently provides PG and Doctorate programs in 6 North Bengal districts and the neighboring state of Sikkim. NBU offers its courses through 64 Affiliated Colleges including 2 constituent colleges in many districts of its zone. NBU itself conducts entrance exams for various disciplines while for MBA admission, it accepts CMAT.

The University of North Bengal, through the Directorate of Distance Education, provides quality Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. In PG level, seven specializations namely, M.A. in English, Bengali, Nepali, Philosophy, Political Science and History and M.Sc. in Mathematics to students of any location and age in the comfort of their home. UG courses like B.A. and B.Com are also provided by the Directorate of Distance Education, NBU from the commencement of this session.

The University of North Bengal looks after the financial needs of students coming from poor financial backgrounds. It offers various scholarships and freeships to deserving and meritorious students under various categories. The university releases separate notification inviting applications from the students. The students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Caste should submit the scholarship form in the university.
The University of North Bengal provides internship and placement assistance through its central Training & Placement (T&P) Cell which continuously coordinates with the various elite and renowned industries and organizations for placement of the students. Ques. What is the medium of instruction at North Bengal University?
Ans. The medium of instruction and examination is only in English at North Bengal University. There is no regional or state language dominance in the education system.
Ques. Are any scholarships offered at North Bengal University?
Ans. Yes, free and half-free studentship are awarded based on applications. Only SC/ST, OBC, PwD students are eligible and they are required to submit their scholarship forms for the academic year max by February for processing scholarship.
Ques. What are the attendance rules for appearing for examination at North Bengal University?
Ans. All students are required to maintain at least 50% attendance in the first seven days of enrollment. Failing which, admission would be cancelled by the university. It is mandatory to attend 75% of regular classes including tutorials in order to sit for final exams conducted by the university.
Ques. Is it possible to join North Bengal University from any other university?
Ans. Yes, those applicants who wish to transfer their admission from their current university to North Bengal University, can submit a migration certificate and a fee of INR 250 as part of registration. This fee must be paid within one month of admission at University of North Bengal.
Ques. What is the online processing fee for admission at North Bengal University?
Ans. A processing fee of INR 100 for general candidates and INR 50 for SC/ST/OBC students of West Bengal state only and BPL/PwD candidates only on production of relevant certificates is charged for admission applications.

Basic Information About Facilities
Yes, it is possible to score above 70% at North Bengal University. I have known people from the university who have scored above 70% and even 80% in their subjects. But it also depends on your subject. If it’s a science subject like Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science that's achievable. But it’s a little tough for Arts subjects.
Also, recently NBU started a semester pattern and study. In the semester system, the question pattern was updated and it makes scoring above 80% easy.
Calcutta University is far better than North Bengal University for studying law.
Although you can excel in your academics from any university, choosing a better one will provide you with more exposure. So, if you are interested in pursuing a degree in Law, I will suggest that you choose CU.
