Eligibility Criteria
Any candidate who has completed Four-year graduate degree in any discipline with Mathematics as one of the subjects in 10+2 with a valid CEED/GATE score.
Course Details
IIT Roorkee MDes admission 2024 is open, the university will release the shortlist of selected candidates in the 3rd week of April 2024. Admission to the MDes program at IIT Roorkee is based on CEED/GATE scores. Further, the final selection of the candidates is made through their performance in the aptitude test and personal interview. The institute will conduct the test and interview in the second week of May 2024. Alongside, for the MDes Admission, the CEED Cut-off 2024 for Part A has been released. The mean and standard deviation for Part-A (CEED 2024) are 41.90 and 16.72 respectively. IIT Roorkee provides admission to this course to 3 different categories of students i.e., regular candidates, sponsored candidates, and the Golden Girl Scheme for Female Applicants. 2.1 How to Apply?
IIT Roorkee MDes Eligibility & Selection Criteria
IIT Roorkee M.Des program is offered to regular and sponsored candidates and a golden girl scheme for female applicants. Given below are the eligibility and selection criteria for the mentioned categories of students:
Regular Candidates- Candidates belonging to the GEN-EWS, and OBC categories must have secured at least 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.00 (55% or 5.50 CGPA for SC/ST/PD) on a 10-point scale at the qualifying degree level. Further, any candidate who has completed a four-year graduate degree in any discipline with Mathematics as one of the subjects in 10+2 with a valid CEED/GATE score is eligible for the IIT Roorkee MDes program.
Sponsored Candidates- For full-time sponsored candidates, they must have completed a four-year graduate degree in any discipline with Mathematics as one of the subjects in 10+2 with two years of full-time work experience. For part-time sponsored candidates, the requirement of a GATE/CEED score is exempted. However, GATE/CEED qualified candidates can be considered for admission if they are already appointed as Project Fellow/JRF in an Externally Funded Research Project at IIT Roorkee.
Golden Girl Scheme for Female Applicants- The first rank holder (Gold Medalist) female candidates from an IIT and/or Institute/University within the TOP 50 ranks (overall category) in the NIRF in the most recent year will be granted admission under this scheme.
Aspirants who satisfy the eligibility criteria will be invited to participate in an aptitude test and interview conducted by the institute. However, candidates getting admitted under the Golden Girl scheme only need to undergo an interview by the department. Based on the aggregate performance, a merit list shall be drawn for offering provisional admission to the program. Provisional admission offers shall be sent by email at the mailing address given in the application form.

I am the right person to answer this question as my sister was a batchmate of the student who grabbed a 1.5 crore package offered by Microsoft Redmond. This package was offered to CSE and ECE students.
Microsoft was recruiting based on 2 profiles: Microsoft (Software) India and Microsoft Redmond USA
For Microsoft India, CTC offered was 39 Lakhs and the in-hand salary was 1 lakh per month which is similar to other IT companies.
For Microsoft Redmond, the CTC was 1.5 crore while the in hand was around 45 Lakhs.
Keeping in mind the PPP of USA vs India, the approximate value is 15 LPA. Do you think this is an extraordinary package, considering all the factors I have mentioned? Many companies visiting the campus even offer packages ranging between 20-25 LPA. In fact, an Indian company AppDynamics had offered a package of Rs.45 lakhs with 30 lakhs in hand. Many such offers by Indian companies are better than US companies. It’s just that the international offers are extremely hyped and not many go into details of the monetary value.

As she entered, she was thrilled by the beauty of the campus and the infrastructure. She entered the Convocation Hall and got herself registered after a tiresome process. She was then handed a paper ID card.
Next, she was escorted to her assigned hostel which to her dismay was an old and eerie building. Her roommate was in the branch as her and soon she unpacked her belongings and set up her room. By evening, she had interacted with some regarding the Orientation Program.
The next few days were spent in a frenzy with the alarm clock waking her up early in the morning. Students were given a tour of the campus and were also asked to choose their proficiency amongst NCC, NSS & NSO. There was also a test of English where the vocabulary was to be evaluated.
The students were enlightened in basic policies such as curfew timings and no ragging culture.
Students were also given a white-colored T-shirt with IITR’s logo and were asked to run a marathon at 6 am in the morning. The food served at the mess was pathetic.
Overall, the first day at IIT Roorkee is full of surprises and learning new things!
