Course Description
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) MA admission 2023 will commence soon. Admissions to the program are based on the SPPU OEE (Online Entrance Examination). The OEE 2023 is expected to be conducted by July 2023.
Pune University (SPPU) offers a full-time MA program for a duration of 2-years. The course is offered in 35 specializations including Geography, Mathematics, Statistics, Anthropology, Defense & Strategic Studies, Economics, English and other languages, Philosophy, etc. The minimum requirement to get admission to the MA is a Bachelor’s degree in any relevant discipline from a recognized university.

Pune University MA Eligibility Criteria
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has different eligibility criteria for different courses according to the specialization.
- For MA in Mathematics, the candidate should have done B.A. in Mathematics on merit.
- For MA Statistics, a BA in Mathematics with Statistics as a subsidiary subject is required.
- For MA Anthropology, the candidate should be a graduate in Science/ Liberal Arts/ Social Science/Medicine Faculty & Management.
- For MA in Defense & Strategic Studies, Bachelor’s in the same or a PG Diploma in Defense Analyst & National Security/ Disaster Management & National Security.
- For MA Economics the candidate should have a Bachelor's Degree in any stream from a recognized university.
- For MA English, BA with English specialization or any General subject is required.
- For MA French/German/Spanish/Russian the candidates should have scored 60% in Bachelor’s in the specific language and an advanced diploma in the respective language is required.
For all the specialization courses in MA, the eligibility criteria are merit in the respective Bachelor’s degree and also the entrance exam id needed.

Pune University MA Admission Criteria
Admission for MA at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is based on merit in the Entrance Exam and academic performance.
The format for applying and completing the entrance exam are given below,
- The Online Entrance Exam (OEE) conducted by SPPU is for 100 marks and consists of two sections.
- The merit list will be prepared based on the score in both the sections.
Pune University MA Application Process
- Merit in the Entrance Exam and academic score alone will not guarantee admission at SPPU. The admission will be confirmed only if the candidate meets the eligibility criteria and submits valid documents.
- After the merit and waiting list is released by the university, the candidates can apply for admission on the Online Application dashboard.
- Log in to the Online Application portal and click on the “Apply Button” in the Apply for Admission column.
- Fill in the required information and click on “Proceed to Next” button which will take you to the next step, which is uploading required documents.
- Upload the valid mark sheet and other documents and click on the “Apply” button.
- Once the required documents are uploaded the department will verify and move on to approve the admission form.
- After the approval a “Pay/Print” Link for the Admission challan will appear in the “Menu” tab in Admission Details window.
- The fee can be paid online using any Card or Net Banking and the payment receipt can be downloaded.
- The admission will be confirmed only after the payment is confirmed.
- Reservation as per the Government of Maharashtra will be taken into consideration for students with disabilities/Orphan/ Defence Personnel’s Child/Ex-servicemen Child.
- 30 % seats for female candidates and for the SBC category as per the government rules are provided.

- Every student will get 10 marks grace if there is only one subject backlog. For 50-50 pattern, the mark deviation will be 5-5. For 70-30 pattern, the mark deviation will be 7-3.

SPPU grace marks don’t exceed 1% of the aggregate marks of the examination.

- For non-professional courses, the required fees for transcript certificate is INR 115/-. While for professional courses, the required fee is INR 150/-. You need to pay the fee via a demand draft drawn in favor of The Registrar, University of Pune.
- If you want to receive your transcript certificate outside of India, you need to pay the International postal charges by Demand Draft.
Foreign or non-resident students need to pay the fees in Indian currency. The department usually sends the Transcript Certificate to the address given within 60 days via speed-post.
In SPPU, you can appear for backlog examinations 3 times for odd semesters and 2 times for even semesters. If you fail a subject in the first semester, you will have a chance to clear the backlog in 2nd semester, 3rd semester, and 4th semester. If you have a backlog from the 2nd semester, you will have a chance to clear the backlog in 3rd semester and 4th semester.
One of my friends recently graduated from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). According to her, it is better to do anything rather than joining this institute. She mentioned some of the reasons that made her feel this way.
- The institute only focuses on making money and not actual education.
- The syllabus and curriculum followed by the institute are outdated.
- Practical training is not properly given, making students lag behind the industry demands.
- Basic things like a proper academic calendar are not provided.

- A 60% from SPPU is not considered good enough for admission to other colleges. They do not consider it as first class.

It is suggested that you do not opt for SPPU as they are highly unprofessional. They do not have a proper way to conduct classes, assemblies, extracurricular activities and get involved in everything half-heartedly. SPPU is a good example of how a university should be not.

- Calculating GPA from percentage is very simple.
- The US GPA is a 4 point scale.
- The Indian percentage is 100% which is nothing but 100 points.
- 25 points in percentage is equivalent to 1 point in the GPA System.

- The academic rules are more strict at Pune University and the number of backlogs allowed is also less than at Mumbai University thus maintaining the quality of Education.
- The exams are conducted consequently and little time is given for preparation. This makes it more challenging for the students and prepares them well for the future.
If you genuinely want to understand concepts and create amazing memories along with a lot of struggles, Pune University is for you. If you are looking for a laid-back campus life and a calm learning environment, then Mumbai University is best for you.
