Course Details

Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) offers a Bachelor of Ayurvedic and Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course for a duration of 5.5 years. Admission to the HPU BAMS 2021 will be granted on the basis of NEET UG 2021. Once the NEET exam is conducted for this academic year, HPU releases a cut-off for the BAMS course. HPU BAMS Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for admission to HPU BAMS 2021 is observed as follows:

Candidates must have qualified 10+2 examination or anything equivalent to it from a recognized board of examination
Candidates must belong to the background of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and English
The applying candidate must have at least 50% of marks in aggregate in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry in their 11th and 12th; 40% if from reserved category.
Must have qualified for NEET UG.
Candidate must be between age 17-25 not more not less on the date of application and year of admission
There is a 5 years relaxation in age for the candidates belonging to SC/ST and OBC.

How to Apply for HPU BAMS?

Go to the official website of HPU: www.hpuniv.ac.in
Click on the ‘Online Admissions’ option visible on the home page.
Select the desired program such as UG/PG/Ph.D. in the drop-down menu that appears.
Choose student log-in after choosing the program and click on the ‘New Registration’ option displayed.
Register as a ‘New User’ by providing an email and password.
Now log in using the user details and begin the application process.
Fill in the asked details such as education details and upload the required files such as marks lists and ID proofs.
Pay the application fee through a Credit/Debit Card, Net banking, or UPI.
Click on the ‘Submit’ option at the end of the application.

The application will be verified and there is a window period in which the candidate is provided with an opportunity to correct any details entered wrongly. Once submitted, the application is verified by the admission committee at HPU, and candidates are filtered through the Eligibility, Admission criteria and the short-listed candidates are contacted for admission.

HPU BAMS Course Details

HPU BAMS 2021 is offered for a duration of 5 ½ years of which the coursework is divided into 11 semesters.

HPU BAMS is a professional year-end exam-based course.
HPU offers an internship program for a duration of 1 year after the successful completion of 4 ½ years professional course study period.
The course covers Indian Ancient medicine Ayurveda with modern anatomy, medicinal practices, and principles, the principle of surgery, forensic medicine, pharmacology, Ent, botany, and toxicology.

HPU BAMS Program Structure

Duration: The 5 ½ years of the HPU BAMS program is divided as follows:

Examination: The college conducts the first-year exam as an annual exam and for the following years, it is usually conducted in Sep/Oct.
Students who fail in the first professional exam of HPU BAMS are allowed to appear for the second professional examination but are not allowed to appear the third professional exam unless they pass all the failed subjects of the first professional exam within four chances and a period of a maximum of three years.
Students who fail in the second professional of HPU BAMS but have passed all the exams of the first professional will be allowed to appear the third professional exam but will not be allowed to attend the exam of the third professional unless the student passes all the subjects
Degree: HPU BAMS degree is awarded to students after the successful completion of the course “Ayurvedacharya” (BAMS). It is given after only passing the final exam and completing the compulsory rotatory internship that is yearlong.
Internships: The eligibility for joining the internship program is compulsory qualified in all four professional exams within nine years including all changes that are provided for the years above
Medium of instruction: Hpu offers the course in English, Sanskrit, any recognized language, and Hindi.
Attendance: All the students are required to attend the lectures and practical classes punctually and the latecomers will not be allowed into the lecture hall.

- If any student remains absent from class for 10 consecutive days, their name shall be removed from attendance, and readmission is allowed with a fee of INR2,500
- However re-admission shall only be done on recommendation from a counselor with a valid reason such as serious sickness, death of a family member, etc.,

Scholarships and Stipends: HPU BAMS has very generous scholarships even though the course fee is very low in the college. The following are the scholarships and stipends provided at HPU to the BAMS students

INR 200 per month for each student as scholarship/stipend is given based on 1st professional,2nd professional, and 3rd professional exams based on Poverty cum Brilliancy for Ten toppers
INR 9,000 per year for eligible girl students under ‘Maharishi Balmiki Stipend Yojna’ as per the H.P. Govt. issued from time to time in this regard.

HPU BAMS Internships

One year compulsory rotatory internship is present for all the students of the course
The program will start immediately after the declaration of the final or the fourth professional results
The students who pass their BAMS final Professional exam shall be required to do the compulsory internship and will be provided a stipend from time to time for a year
The internship will not be given unless the student registers themselves with H.P Ayurveda and Unani Board as per CCIM and H.P University ordinances.
The internship program and time distribution are as follows:

The intern shall receive an orientation that gives the details of the course including rules and regulations. The orientation is conducted in the first three days after the internship begins
Every intern will provisionally require to register themselves with the Himachal Ayurved and Unani registration board and obtain a certificate before joining the internship program
The one-year internship will be divided into clinical training of six months in the ayurvedic hospital attached to the college and six months in PHC/CHC/Rural hospital/District Hospital Civil Hospital.
State government’s permission for allowing the BAMS graduates in the hospital/dispensary of modern medicine will be obtained in advance.

Ans. The application fee for HPU BAMS 2021 Admission is INR 2,000 for General candidates and INR 1,000 for SC/ST category students.

Ans. Yes, HPU BAMS 2021 Admission only accepts NEET-UG scores and doesn’t have management quota admission, it is compulsory to attend and qualify NEET-UG with all necessary eligibility and admission criteria to get a seat in the course.

How is the student life in HPU Shimla?

Shimla is one of the best places in India. HPU Shimla is situated in the beautiful hills of Shimla. A senior of mine who attended HPU, says that life at HPU Shimla is good. Every facility is given to the students at HPU Shimla.

HPU Shimla has excellent faculty in every department and also most of them have received a Ph.D. degree in their respective fields.
The seniors here are also helpful and supportive.
HPU Shimla has a lovely hostel as well overlooking the hills and the valleys.
HPU Shimla conducts several cultural festivities and events. It has got a large auditorium where the events and functions are held.

Life at HPU Shimla will be pretty amazing. It is better to stay away from politics and just enjoy college life and the academics in the university.

What is the syllabus for the entrance for an M.Sc in zoology at HPU Shimla?

I have a few friends from HPU Shimla and according to them, there is no specific syllabus for Zoology entrance. The question of the last few years can be helpful in analyzing the paper pattern. There is no specific syllabus mentioned but the courses generally comprise the topics from the UG degree. So it is definitely recommended to study the UG books and it would be really helpful if you could get previous papers.

There are some books that can be useful such as Arihant’s entrance test book for MSc.

Which one is the best GNDU Amritsar or HPU UIIT Shimla?

It entirely depends on which course you are opting for. Generally, in comparison, GNDU Amritsar will have the upper hand over HPU UIIT Shimla on the basis of the institute level and the infrastructure.

GNDU Amritsar has very good infrastructure and facilities. The environment of the institute is very good and well for studies. The seniors present there are helpful too. GNDU Amritsar has also got a huge library which the students can access anytime. The library is fully air-conditioned along with the separate reading rooms. The institute is also famous for its huge achievements in the field of sports.

GNDU offers decent placement opportunities. In 2021, the highest CTC offered was 13 LPA.

One of my friends graduated from Kurukshetra University and is now doing her PG from HPU campus. Here are some snippets of her experience.

The quality of education at the institute is not good. It has been continuing with the same curriculum for ages.
The faculty of the university do not seem to have any intentions of updating with the world while they are very active in the politics of the college.
Infrastructure wise nothing has changed for many years. The library facility is not good.
The location is just great and the transportation as well. The university management has not been able to fully utilize the potential of the location.
The fees are very meager there (reason for the very poor students coming there of different quotas and categories who cannot afford more).
There are no facilities for sports. No proper grounds or coaches.

The University Institute of Engineering and Technology on the campus has a good name though.

The college is overall good and even better for the MBA course. Here are some facts and stats for your reference that will help you make a decision.

Placements:

Almost 50% of the students were placed internally, and 20 to 30% of the students got outside campus placements.
Approximately 80% of placements were placed in college. The salary package offered ranged from INR 2.5 to 12 LPA.
Wipro and Infosys are the top recruiting companies of the college.

Facilities:

There are free Wi-Fi facilities with fast connection speed.
All the labs are well-equipped, and classrooms are well-furnished along with smart classes.
The library is also well-maintained and contains all the necessary materials related to other courses also.
Medical facilities are good. A regular dispensary on the university campus is available.
The food served in the mess is also good at affordable prices.
All the outdoor and indoor sports are available in the college.

So, HPU Shimla is definitely a great choice to pursue an MBA degree.

You should choose Chandigarh University for an M.Sc in Chemistry.

The department has state-of-the-art laboratories to perform practicals for Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry.
CU used teaching aids such as PPTs, Models, Animated Videos, Charts, etc.
Many activities are organized throughout the academic year to encourage learning outside the classroom.
The faculty pool for Chemistry is excellent.
CU encourages students to publish research papers during their last semester.

In terms of academics, learning resources, and facilities, CU will be better than HPU.
