Be it any branch, I would always choose IIT Bhubaneswar over 2nd generation IITs such as IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Indore. Let’s discuss the worth of IIT Bhubaneswar in terms of common aspects like

  • Academics: An easy way to judge the academic standards of an Institute is to compare the quality and quantity of research papers published. In these terms, IIT Bhubaneswar has an evident advantage over IIT Gandhinagar.
  • Faculty: Another major criteria are the faculty as they are responsible for publishing papers. In this aspect too Bhubaneswar has an upper hand as it has professors from IIT Kharagpur and Kanpur teaching in various departments in the institute. It also has foreign professors that provide the necessary exposure.
  • Sports: IIT Bhubaneswar owns this one as it is the first of the 2nd Gen IITs to be co-hosting the INTER-IIT sports meet in 2019. This fact in itself is a testament to the excellent infrastructural facilities.
  • Infrastructure: IIT Bhubaneswar has excellent sports as well as other facilities in the form of cricket, and football; courts for tennis, badminton, volleyball, and table tennis; gym facilities in both the girls' and boys' hostels and the new swimming pool.
  • Extracurricular: Several societies and councils are supported by the Institute that promotes extracurricular culture. The college has participated in the Inter-IIT cultural meet in various events such as music, drama, literature, debating, and also dance.
  • Hostel: The accommodation facilities are top notch with more than basic amenities such as Washing machines, water heaters, 24-hour water supply, and two common rooms with TVs for all the hostellers to watch exciting matches together. The hostel has 24/7 Wi-Fi facilities and is a great place to make friends.

IIT Bhubaneswar is an excellent place to create memories and enjoy a rich college experience.

Taking 7 more years to start a B Tech in CSE just goes onto show the kind of quality control measures IITGN employs and the kind of standards it sets when it comes to providing world-class education. Minors in CS have always been in demand among UG students at IIT Gandhinagar. The placement opportunities are excellent in terms of coding profile. It ultimately depends upon the individual and the kind of profile he builds during his four years at IIT Gandhinagar.

Provided are the major highlights with respect to IIT Gandhinagar:

Based on my interactions with numerous prospective students and their parents. It's been noticed that the Quality of research work is being done in CS with the help and guidance of better faculty while receiving good placements.

Even the Ph.D. program in CS has been running for a long time now, plenty of research is going on. IIT GN will grant you ample opportunities and will boost the interests of its students greatly. But making the best use of the resources and opportunities available is up to that particular student. Mentioning all this, it is suggested that it will be better if you choose IIT Gandhinagar.

My brother appeared in the written test for MSc Cognitive Sciences in February 2020. So, I can give you some insight about the same.

The written test analyses your comprehensive skills i.e. the ability to implement the things you read. The section will contain comprehension questions. It will also include some of the paragraphs or questions based on the Cognitive Science Journals.

Examination Pattern:

The written test is the same for everyone.

  • It contains 4 questions of comprehensive type and 1 of data interpretation.
  • The total marks for the examination are 25 and the duration is 1 hour.

Preparation Tips:

  • For preparation, you can simply take some random comprehensive type question off the internet and solve it.
  • In his examination, my brother had passages from pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders, case-studies on behavioral experiments using VR/AR, etc.
  • The questions are designed in a way that everyone can interpret them.

Be patient and stay motivated. All the best for your exam.

When it comes to IITs it’s not really easy to compare them especially when these both are of the same generation.

However, if you still need to compare it is important for you to understand that an undergraduate degree is more of an exploration to discover your passion and interest. This hypothesis has been vetted by a large number of IIT graduates, IIM graduates, and many professors and IIT alums.

Let’s take a few examples for a case in point.

  • Dr. Raghuram Rajan, a top IIT alum studied electrical at IIT, followed up with an MBA at IIM and then a Ph.D. from MIT to become an economist.
  • Also, the TVF guy (Jeetu bhaiya from the Kota Factory) did undergrad from IIT Kharagpur only to become a comedian and actor later. Interesting isn’t it?

Flexibility:

So now that you understand the importance of flexibility and passion, IIT Gandhinagar stands out here undoubtedly. The curriculum at IIT Gandhinagar is very flexible and it allows you to study anything under the sun. This flexibility is the reason behind the success of Many IIT Gandhinagar graduates.

Apart from that, IIT Gandhinagar has the most funds among the second generation IITs. It offers around 30–40% of the batch with options to pursue foreign internships and great research opportunities.

Location:

If you compare IIT Ropar with IIT Gandhinagar, the latter takes the trophy again because it is situated in Gandhinagar which is the capital of Gujarat. The campus sits in the vicinity of CM residence, Vidhan Sabha, ambitious GIFT City project, prominent institutes such as DAIICT, NIFT, and many others.

Placement:

Placements at IIT Gandhinagar is excellent. The first CSE batch graduated in 2020. Without CSE only, firms such as Nutanix, Goldman Sachs, ITC, Barclays, etc. have been recruiting at the campus.

Alumni:

IIT Gandhinagar has to date graduated about 600+ students from BTech and at least 80–90% of them are quite successful. You can see alums are working in firms such as Mckinsey, Microsoft in the US, Amazon, Apple, BCG, ATK, Google, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, ITC, PnG, to name a few. You can also visit the alumni portal to get an idea about it or just visit LinkedIn.

For these factors, CSE at IIT Gandhinagar is a better alternative.

I don’t know what or who convinced you to go for IIT Gandhinagar, but if it’s not too late please reconsider your decision. Here are some points that will help you understand my strong aversion to IIT Gandhinagar.

  • The hostel fees are extremely high around 27-30k/- semester. Additionally, they charge you more if you are staying in the hostel during vacations.
  • There are no laundry facilities available in the hostel
  • The rooms towards the interior are in pathetic condition
  • The labs are very small and have substandard equipment
  • They force you to attend the orientation program. Those who don’t suffer a lot and are deprived of Scholarships and you will be asked to do it again the following year
  • The Management system is extremely poor and lethargic.

Irrespective of these points, the short video below might convince you to join IIT Gandhinagar

So, I will advise you to go for IIT Gandhinagar only if it’s the last option available.

There are the following points that you need to keep in mind while choosing between BITS Pilani Goa campus and IIT Gandhinagar:

  • Choose your branch. When making this decision, it is crucial to consider what branch you want to pursue. Talk to people who have done CS or Electrical Engineering and gather information about both fields.
  • Decide between IIT and BITS. BITS has a good alumni network, and its CS package is higher than IIT GN's Electrical Engineering package. However, IIT has a better brand value, especially if you plan to pursue higher education or move to the United States. If you want to go to the USA, choose IIT. If you plan to stay in India, BITS Goa is well recognized, and placements in CS are better at BITS than at IIT GN.
  • Chill out! If you are undecided about your future plans or your choice of college, don't worry too much about it. Choose a place where you can enjoy your B.Tech life. If you want to have fun, BITS Goa is the better option as it is located in Goa.

Well frankly speaking the academic environment of IITGN has already deteriorated to a large degree.

Just a few months ago, one of my friends said that the IITGN director has started a poll to re-evaluate the academic climate due to pressure. Such a poll is actually novel in an academic institute. Interestingly the poll is conducted by his hired persons. Consequently, the result was very clear that the intention is to show with fake results, compiled by his own people, that everything is great there.

The students of IITGN had to endure various struggles because of the director who resembles to be mentally unstable to many colleagues. What actually happens in IITGN is nothing less than a dictatorial regime, where you will observe that the ruler always tries to promote their betterment to the outside world by publishing pictures, fake polls, and surveys, twisted or fabricated news items that people are so happy and loyal under their rule.

Whereas in reality, the only notion on people’s minds is absolute fear and hatred for the ruler. Remember some of the widely circulated pictures of Hitler hugging little kids, or of a smiling Kim Jong-Un being embraced by female fans. IIT Gandhinagar's administration style is pretty similar to that.
