One of my friends studied at Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD). According to him, there are a lot of things that make it better among others.
The Heritage of AUD is exceptional. The environment is welcoming and accepting for students across the globe.
Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) has many things that stand out when compared to other B-schools in India.
Lastly, being located in Delhi it already has an advantage. You will get a good and competitive crowd which will eventually help in your overall development as an individual.
Whether taking admission to Ambedkar University Delhi will be difficult or not depends on the course you are choosing.
For undergraduate courses in Economics, the required cutoff is about 2% lower as compared to the University of Delhi. It’s better to opt for AUD, rather than off-campus DU colleges.
For a postgraduate in Economics, the examination pattern and the level of examination is similar to JNU. First, you are required to clear the cutoff objective, only then your subjective answers are marked. You will be shortlisted for the interview, only when you clear the overall cutoff.
Ambedkar University is comparably better. It has a superior faculty base. The student-teacher ratio of the university is also lower, so each student gets more attention. Instead of traditional examinations, the institute evaluates students using innovative and more layered techniques. You will love to take part in those tests. For most disciplines, the curriculum is good.
It depends on the college you are getting admission under Delhi University. If you are able to get into one of the top colleges in the North or South campus of Delhi University, you should stick with it. Otherwise, choosing AUD over DU will be better. One other thing that you should consider while making the choice is your ultimate goal, i.e. research/job. You should definitely choose AUD if you are interested in pursuing research.
Ambedkar University, Delhi is a new university and it comes under the jurisdiction of the Delhi government. It is mostly known for its Humanities courses like Sociology, Phycology, Economics, etc. It has better faculties compared to DU. Almost all faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees. As it is a small institute, the quality of education offered is quite good. They also offer many subject choices for these courses. However, the placement scenario of the institute is not that good.
The interview in Ambedkar University is not that difficult. If your fundamental knowledge is clear, you can easily crack the interview. The interview duration is usually 10 mins. Usually, there will be 4-5 professors in the panel.
According to one of my friend’s experiences, interviewers usually ask the students to pick a subject from their undergraduate and test their basic knowledge in it.
In the entrance test for MA in English at Ambedkar University, there will be questions that will test your analytic skills. You will have to analyze an unseen poem or passage. Also, there will be short questions. Some of these questions will be opinion based while others will test your subject knowledge.
For preparation, you can read ‘A glossary of literary terms’ by M.H Abrams, Contemporary Literary and Cultura; Theory: From Structuralism To Ecocriticism by Pramod K Nayar. Also, read a little bit about Indian English Literature, Postcolonial literature, partition literature, etc.
Ambedkar University and Delhi University both have different visions and different approaches towards teaching. You will get good faculty at both universities. So, it’s not fair to compare these institutes.
The major difference between the two institutes is that at Ambedkar University the course structure and syllabus get updated every semester based on the interest of the faculty and students. While DU is more traditional in terms of academics and exams.
Placement at Ambedkar University Delhi depends on the course. For courses like MBA, Masters in Economics, the placement statistics are quite good. In recent years the average CTC offered in the placement drive was 7 LPA. Considering the course fee the ROI is great. Some of the major recruiters that visited the campus placement were Zomato, IndiaMart, ITC, Decathlon, etc.
