Tezpur University Admission 2024 Quick Updates

Tezpur University admission 2024 is open for the MBA program. The last date to apply is January 31, 2024. Interested candidates can apply online on the official website @tezuadmissions.in. The application fee for MBA admission 2023 is INR 1000. 

Some more updates are as follows:

  • CUET PG 2024 registrations are open now and the last date to apply is January 24, 2024. Interested candidates can register online on the official website @pgcuet.samarth.ac.in. CUET PG 2024 exam will be held from March 11 to March 28, 2024. 

Tezpur University is a Central University located in Tezpur in the North-Eastern state of Assam, India by an act in Parliament of India in 1994. It is a non-affiliating and residential Central University. The University has a variety of UG, PG, PhD, Diploma and Certificate courses in various departments in many disciplines and their specializations. The academic programs offered in the University have a distinct focus on science, technology, and humanities, reflecting the objective of the University. Tezpur University Admissions to all courses is based on an entrance exam (TUEE), which is conducted by the university itself. The university also accepts JEE Main for B.Tech admission, CAT / MAT for MBA admission and GATE for M.Tech admission.

Tezpur University UG Admission 2023

Tezpur University offers four integrated programs and a certificate course under its UG curriculum. The courses are Integrated M.Sc, Integrated M.Com, Integrated MA in English, Integrated B.Sc B.Ed, and Certificate in Chinese course. The minimum eligibility requires passing 10+2 in Science/Commerce/Arts stream with 60% aggregate marks. Admission to these courses will be done through Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

Tezpur University UG Selection Criteria

Candidates will be selected on the basis of the merit list of CUET 2023. Candidates will have to appear for General Test for a few courses.

  • Integrated M.Sc courses have a selection process based on CUET(UG) – 2023
  • Integrated MA courses have selection criteria based on the marks obtained in General Test.

Tezpur University UG Application Process

Candidates will have to apply for CUET (UG)-2023 through only the online mode. The online application form must be submitted by the candidate through the NTA website- https://cuet.samarth.ac.in/. The detailed instruction for the filling up the online application is given below:

  • Candidates need to visit the official website- https://cuet.samarth.ac.in/
  • Candidates will have to register first with a valid Email-ID & Phone number.
  • A password & Application Number has to be generated
  • Candidates must upload Photograph (10Kb-200Kb) and Signature (4Kb-30Kb) along with educational documents.
  • Documents to be uploaded- scanned copy of Category Certificate and PWD Certificate (if needed)
  • Candidates should check the application form before submitting it
  • The application fees are to be paid through online mode only
  • The candidate must take the printout of the submitted application form and the fee receipt for future reference

Tezpur University B. Tech Admission 2023

The university offers admission to B.Tech course on the basis of a valid score in JEE Main. 60% seats are reserved for candidates belonging to North Eastern states and 40% seats will be filled through All India Rank (AIR) followed by a centralized counselling process.

Tezpur University M.Tech, MBA & MCA Admission 2023

MBA admission at Tezpur University will be conducted on the basis of the score obtained in CAT/MAT/ XAT/ ATMA/ GMAT or CMAT exams. Graduate degree holders in any specialization are eligible to apply. A final merit list will be prepared considering the performance of the candidates in qualifying degree, Entrance Test and Personal Interview.

M.Tech & MCA admission is based on marks in the entrance test conducted by Tezpur University. For M.Tech program, GATE qualified candidates will be exempted from the university entrance.

For MBA Program, the application form can be filled online on payment of INR 1000 (INR 500 for SC/ST/ PWD/ OBC) by Credit/ Debit Card or Net-Banking.

The university offers various Ph.D. programs in the School of Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management and Science. Ques: How can I get admission through the SSS quota at Tezpur University?

Ans. You need to choose this option at the time of filling up the form for the entrance test. If you opt for a course and select SSC, then after the results, if you are not qualified for the general seats you will be selected for the SSC seats based on your respective Merit. 

Ques: How should I apply for direct admission at Tezpur University after the results?

Ans. Top 10 rank holders of Northeastern Board exams can apply for direct admission after getting the Rank certificate issued by the Board.

Ques: Is a gap certificate required for admission to Tezpur University's BTech programmes? I am a repeater.

Ans. A gap certificate is required if you are a repeater. If you don't possess the certificate then you will be given provisional admission and you will have 2–3 months to acquire the certificate or your admission will be cancelled.

Ques: Is there a different entrance exam for admissions to B.Tech at Tezpur University other than JEE Mains?

Ans. Tezpur University does not conduct any test for admission in BTech other than JEE Mains but admission is done in the ratio of 40:60 for the candidates. 40% of seats are filled up by JOSAA counseling as the All India channel. Admission is granted to the candidates from the NE States vide separate counseling conducted by the university itself for the remaining 60% seats.

Remarks:

Admission to Tezpur University is solely based on the JEE Mains exam and students are called for counselling after releasing the merit list. The courses and admission procedures are detailed on the university website and are easy and simple. During my time the counselling was done in person and we had to go to the university for it but after COVID, situations have changed and counselling is done online now. The reservation benefits can also be availed in the admission process per government norms.

Remarks:

The admission is based on the score in CUET and the subject of choice. One has to appear in CUET conducted by NTA and after the result has to apply to the Tezpur University website separately after which on the basis of merit admission is offered.

Remarks:

I got admission through the NCL quota of the OBC category in the 2nd counselling (spot round). The admission process is really slow, could have added more digitalization. As we, the students, have to go one after another for the document verification and payment process plus we have to fill up some forms which could have been made avail earlier on the website.

Remarks:

In B. Tech., 60% of seats are reserved for north-east residents and 40% seats are open for all India. The admission is done on the basis of JEE main rank. Application forms are available on university website for North East Residents and for 40% seats, admission is done through JOSAA/CSAB. Reservation benefits are given as per central government rule in JOSAA/CSAB.

One of my friends attended Tezpur University. His experience with the university has not been good. Here are some of the things that she shared with me. The administration there is headed by only one person and the VC is not cooperative. You will get in trouble if any of your batch mates get involved in any misbehavior.  Attending classes there is very important and otherwise, you may not be allowed to do your internships. The library is inadequate. The wifi facility on campus is also not that good.  The placement record of the institute is average. The average CTC offered at the recent placement drive was 3.5 LPA.  So, if you have other better options go for it.

One of my friends studied Mechanical at Tezpur University. Let me share his experiences and knowledge about the college. He, being a student there, will know the intricacies of the college and how they function. Faculty: The mechanical department hosts a really good faculty. Most of them are good at teaching and all of them have a great research-oriented mindset. Projects: About 80% of the projects are based on numerical simulations. These include optimization, analysis, modeling, developing CFD solvers, Comsol modeling and the rest are mainly experimental. Specialization: The department mainly started its M.Tech course in 2013 with a specialization in Applied mechanics. The Thermal and Fluid Engineering specialization began in 2016 and from 2018 onwards, another specialization in Machine Design was also started. The department is definitely growing with time. Placement:  Categories Mechanical at Tezpur University Course Fee 2.00 lakh Highest CTC 6 LPA Average CTC 3.5 LPA Recruiting Companies Dabur, Oil India Ltd, Patanjali, Cummins India Ltd, etc. Overall, the mechanical department at Tezpur University is not as good as IITs but it is much better than many private as well as newly built NITs in the country.

I have a few friends from Tezpur University. According to them, the hostel facilities at the institute are quite good.  WiFi - Most of the time the campus WiFi works well. However, you will have to deal with crappy connectivity from time to time. Food - Food offered at the mess is average. You are allowed to use the gas in mess to cook too.  Canteen - Almost all hostel have their separate canteens, that stay open all night. Peers - At the beginning, it can be challenging to blend in, but with time it gets easier. Common room - It is a great hangout spot. You can play various games like carrom, table tennis. You can also catch up on sports programs on tv.  Overall, the hostel facilities on TU are decent.

It is recommended that you go for any of the NIT Agartala or NIT Silchar over Tezpur University (TU). Here’s mentioning some points as to why it will be a better option. The major thing the NITs possess is the brand name. This name could turn out to be really beneficial for your career ahead. Overall placements at NITs are much better. Whereas TU is known only for its CSE department. Top companies like Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, KPMG, ICICI Prudential, American Express, Barclays, etc. take part in NITs placement programs. These companies offer salary packages ranging from 12-14 LPA. The average CTC rises upto 8.5 LPA. The administration of NITs are well organized unlike TU. Tezpur University being a newer establishment has very less industrial exposure, this is certainly better in the NITs. NITs faculty is highly qualified and well experienced. If you are interested in studying CSE then only consider TU, otherwise NITs are the best at everything. Being a more experienced institute NITs can provide you the proper guidance and connections required to move forward in your career.

Which one is better for a B.Tech Assam Engineering College or Tezpur University?

It is better to go for B.Tech at Tezpur University (TU) than Assam Engineering College (AEC). Following are the reasons for the same: TU has great faculty and infrastructure, and you will get a lot of exposure.  The only drawback is the lack of placements. Being a new institution very few companies visit the college. AEC on the other hand, is very old, and has a strong alumni network.  Placement is better at AEC compared to TU, but still it keeps fluctuating which makes students unsure. Categories B.Tech at AEC B.Tech at TU Course Fee INR 44,000 1.76 lakh Placement Percentage 80% 50% Highest CTC 17 LPA 14 LPA Average CTC 6 LPA 3.5 LPA Recruiting Companies Capgemini, IBM, Wipro, Reliance, etc. SAP Labs, Amazon, Intel, Dabur, etc. If your aim is to get a job right after your graduation, then you should join AEC. But if you are interested more in research and exposure and want to opt for higher studies, TU will be a better option.

Before choosing an institute, think about what your requirements are. Here are some points that might help you make a decision. If your aim is a job in a corporate sector then the NITs will definitely be better options. Opt for either NIT Meghalaya or Nagaland.  Do not compare their placements with older NITs as it could prove disappointing. Tezpur University (TU) is also known to provide good placement opportunities but it is more concentrated to only the CSE department.  You may get placements from a few IT companies, but overall placements are concerned NITs are definitely better than TU. Students who are interested in learning and exploring research fields can opt for TU as well.  Tezpur University has very good faculty strength in ECE & CSE.  The two departments are much older too.  The CSE faculty and labs of TU are better than NIT Silchar.  TU has got a good research environment as there are multiple departments of Science and Engineering, which is not the case of the mentioned NITs. Therefore it is suggested that if you aim for an immediate job opportunity, go for NITs. For students who feel confident that they can get a job off campus or are more inclined towards academics and research can go for TU.

A few of my friends graduated from Tezpur University. Here is their insight on the placement issue. The engineering department of the institute is relatively new. It will take some time for the institute to create its credibility and an alumni base. The brand value of any institute is a product of these two factors. So, TU will still need a few years to become recognized among the recruiter circle.  According to my friends, the university needs to be a little liberal in their internship rules too. As of now, students are not allowed to take external internships. This is a wastage of opportunity since many recruiters recruit students after the completion of their internships.

For post-graduation courses, Tezpur University conducts its own entrance examination named TUEE. Which is conducted in both the northeastern part and across the major cities of the country like Mumbai, Kolkata, etc. Tezpur University accepts GATE scores for the M.Tech program. Therefore, the admission procedure is quite hassle-free if your application fulfills the requirements accordingly.
