Course Description

NIT Silchar M.Tech admission 2024 will be based on the GATE scores followed by CCMT counseling. For NIT Silchar MTech Admission 2024, GATE Registrations have started from August 30. The closing date of regular registration is October 12, 2023. Along with that, the deadline for extended online registration or application process (with late fee) is 20^th October, 2023. Furthermore, GATE 2024 tentative exam dates have been announced. GATE 2024 entrance exam is expected to be held in the month of February. The exam dates for GATE 2024 is on February 3,4,10 & 11.

NIT Silchar offers MTech program in 20 different specialisations for a duration of 2 years seggregated into 4 semesters. NIT Silchar allows admission to its MTech course based on the marks secured in the GATE exam and further CCMT counselling process. NIT Silchar MTech cuttoff in overall for the year ranges between 351-506 for the general category.

NIT Silchar MTech course includes class tests, assignments, viva-voce, project works, and laboratory assignments. This program is offered both in full-time and part-time mode. GATE qualified candidates are eligible to fill up the NIT Silchar MTech application form and register themselves for the CCMT counselling. Candidates will have to pay the registration fee of INR 2,100 and 1,700 for reserved categories.

NIT Silchar M.Tech Key Highlights

The institute offers the M.Tech program in both full time and part time mode.
NIT Silchar charges a total fee of INR 1.69 lakhs for its M.Tech program.
To get admission into the M.Tech program, a general category student needs to secure a rank between 450-695 in the GATE entrance exam.

NIT Silchar M.Tech Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have completed their bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology in the relevant discipline from any recognized university or college.
Candidates are required to pass their bachelor's degree with a minimum of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA.

NIT Silchar M.Tech Admission Criteria

The selection of candidates for the M. Tech course is done on the basis of the GATE score. Candidates also need to appear for CCMT counseling, where they need to complete the choice filling for the programs and colleges they desire for admission in.

The CCMT counseling will shortlist candidates, based on their GATE rank and the shortlisted candidates will be offered admission on the basis of their performance in the CCMT counseling process, previous academic records, category, availability of seats and other factors.

How to Apply for GATE?

Those who are eligible for admission have to take the GATE. The registration process for it is given below:

Visit the official website
Register through the link by entering the candidate’s name, email ID and mobile number.
After the form is submitted, an enrollment ID will be sent to the candidate’s mobile number.
Fill out the application form.
A fee of INR 1,500 (INR 750 for women and reserved categories) will be charged. It is to be paid online.
Download the form and keep a printout for future reference.

CCMT Counselling:

Candidates who take the GATE will have to go for CCMT counselling. To apply, follow the given steps:

Register at the official website.
Fill out the application form.
Pay the registration fee of 2,200 INR (1,700 INR for reserved categories).
Click on “I agree”.
Start entering your choices. When it is done, lock the choices.
Submit the application and keep a printout.

NIT Silchar M.Tech Course Details

The M.Tech program is spread over 4 semesters and due credit is given to lecture, tutorial (theory) and practical components for a given subject.
Normally for M.Tech., first two semesters have theory and practical (laboratory) subjects.
The 3rd and 4th semester mostly constitute the project work for M.Tech.
Class tests, assignments, tutorials, viva-voce, laboratory assignments, etc., are the constituent components of continuous assessment process and a student must fulfil all these requirements as prescribed by the teacher/coordinator of the subject.

One of my close friends graduated from the CSE department of NIT Agartala. I have friends from NIT Silchar and NIT Mizoram as well. Based on what I heard from them, I will say that NIT Silchar is a better option. The reasons why NIT Silchar is better than the other two institutes are as follows. NIT Silchar is ranked better than NIT Agartala and NIT Mizoram by NIRF. NIT Silchar has a better placement record. Students mostly prefer NIT Silchar over NIT Agartala and NIT Mizoram. So, it has a better opening and closing JEE/AIEEE ranks. The difference between NIT Silchar and NIT Agartala is minimal. Both of these two are tier 2, old NITs and have similar pros and cons. NIT Silchar is marginally better than Agartala. However, the latter is catching up quite quickly. NIT Agartala has the only supercomputer in the North East. ISRO has opened an incubation center in NIT Agartala, which is the first in India. Even, few companies choose to conduct joint placement drives for NIT Agartala and NIT Silchar. So, there is not much difference between NIT Silchar and NIT Agartala. If you are getting your preferred branch at NIT Agartala, don’t choose NIT Silchar over it. As for NIT Mizoram, it is a fairly new institute and needs time to catch up with the other two institutes.

It is better than NIT Silchar in terms of education, faculty, placements, and infrastructure. The college has a very welcoming atmosphere and beautiful infrastructure situated near the banks of river Ganga. The academics at the college are really worth it. All the faculty members and all the students are studious. You will get hands-on experience through various mini-projects assigned at the end of the first year and the knowledge gained on the various advanced topics is very helpful in the third year. The campus of IIEST Shibpur is a completely ragging-free zone where no student is harassed and if any such case is found strict actions are taken immediately.
