The art of composition is a challenging field of study which requires skill, resourcefulness, patience, intelligence and diligence. In-born creative talent has to be nurtured with care and expert guidance. A thorough understanding of musical language, styles and diverse genres together with a passion to innovate is the hallmark of a successful composer.
In today?s fast changing pace of audio-visual technology, the composer is faced with artistic demands that go beyond the traditional role of purely writing music. The composer should be able to arrange and orchestrate music, play musical instruments, conduct an orchestra and manage musicians as well as use music technology creatively to meet employer and industry needs.
With these expectations in mind, the BMus (Hons) programme in Composition is designed to equip students with a solid foundation in compositional studies and practice. At the Faculty of Music, students can expect a team of highly qualified and dedicated lecturers to guide them in their creative journey of artistic endeavours.
