Post Basic BSc Nursing (P.B.BSc.) Syllabus, Subjects, Books, Entrance Exam Syllabus

Post Basic BSc Nursing, also referred to as P.B.BSc Nursing course, is a 2-year undergraduate course, meant for professional nurses and midwives to become competent in the standard and advanced nursing procedures.

The admission is based on the merit of the qualifying examination and the results in the written tests conducted separately by the institute or college.

The syllabus is composed of classroom training and practical training in laboratories, seminars, experiments, and ward visits. 

Below table lists the subjects that are included in the PBBSc Nursing Syllabus, year wise in the duration of 2 years:

BSc Nursing (Post Basic) Subjects

Nursing Foundation This course will help and train students about the basic understanding of the philosophy, objectives and responsibilities of Nursing as a profession.
Maternal Nursing The main objective of this course is to widen the student’s knowledge of obstetrics during pregnancy, labour and puerperium.
Medical Surgical Nursing The purpose of this course is to widen the students’ knowledge and develop proficiency in caring for patients with medical surgical problems.
Community Health Nursing The course teaches the students the national health care delivery system and to participate in the delivery of Community Health Nursing.
Mental Health Nursing These courses enable the students to recognize and appreciate the causes, symptoms and process of abnormal human behavior. It also introduces students to the different factors that lead to this behaviour.

BSc Nursing (Post Basic) Entrance Exams Syllabus

The entrance exam helps in the selection of students, usually conducted by the colleges or universities such as:

The exam mostly consists of four main sections:

  • Biology:

It tests student’s skills in biology and consists of topics such as Classification, Cell Theory, Mendel’s Law, Prokaryotic & Eukaryotic cells, Mineral and their nutrition, etc.

  • Chemistry:

It tests students’ skills in chemistry and includes topics such as Solid state, Biomolecules, Chemical Kinetics, Polymers, P-block Elements, Organic Compounds, Coordination Compounds, etc.

  • Physics:

It tests students’ skills in physics in topics such as Magnetic Effect of Current & Magnetism, Atoms and Nuclei, Electronic Devices, Communication Systems, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics, Dual Nature of Matter, Current electricity, Electrostatics, etc.

  • General Knowledge (GK):

It is one of the important parts of the exam and judges students’ skills related to general knowledge in Science, History, General policy, Geography, Scientific research, Culture, Current affairs, etc.

The AIIMS PB BSc Nursing Exam consists of mostly nursing subjects such as:

  • Fundamentals of Nursing
  • Medical-Surgical Nursing including Anatomy
  • Physiology & Pharmacology
  • Obstetrics Nursing and Midwifery
  • Pediatric Nursing
  • Community Health Nursing
  • Psychiatric Nursing
  • Professional Trends in Nursing

These entrance exams usually occur in the month of April to June, with the results out in July by different colleges and institutes to select the skilled candidates for the PBBSc course.

RUHS BSc Nursing syllabus contains topics from 10+2 Biology, Physics, Chemistry of Rajasthan Board or equivalent. You can find the detailed syllabus on the official website of the institute.

Yes, students who are willing to study BSc Nursing (Hons.) courses must appear for the NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test 2023.

NTA or the National Testing Agency will grant admission to BSc Nursing courses to students clearing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET 2023). NEET-UG is a national-level entrance exam for undergraduate medical programs like MBBS, BDS, BVSc, and AYUSH courses.

B.Sc eligibility for NEET 2023

  • The age requirement for NEET is 17-35
  • You must have completed class 12 with physics, chemistry, and biology, as well as English as the main subjects.
  • The minimum percentage scored in 12 must not be less than 45% of total marks (this may differ from university)
  • Must have passed NEET and met the required cutoff

AIIMS BSc Nursing 2022 entrance examination date is June 18. You will be able to get the admit card on 11th June. It is a computer-based test and will be conducted in 150 test centers in 14 cities across the country. 

Number of seats available for B.Sc Nursing (Hons.) at AIIMS Delhi is 571. B.Sc Nursing students need to pay a security deposit of INR 1000 for the hostel. Mess fees need to be paid separately. The current mess charges for four meal format fixed menu is around INR 2000. For student-run messes, mess fee is higher.
