Shyama Prasad Mukherji College For Women FAQs

Ques. Why is the SPMCW College cutoff higher every year?

Ans.  The cutoffs of SPMCW remain higher every year due to various reasons such as popularity of the courses and college, low difficulty level of board examination, ratio of number of students exceeds the availability of seats, or higher marks obtained in class 12th Which causes tougher competition etc.

Ques. Can I take admission to BSc (H) Mathematics, if I qualify for the SPMCW College cut off in the first list?

Ans. Yes, the candidates who secure the equivalent or higher than the required cut off marks are eligible to take admission in SPMCW College in the very first list. However the cutoff lists are prepared on the basis of merit scores achieved by the students in the class 10+2 board examination..

Ques. How will I get confirmation if I qualify for the SPMCW cutoff for admission?

Ans. When the cutoff lists of SPMCW are published, they will be displayed on the official websites of Delhi University and SPMCW. After this, the cutoff marks which are the basis of admission to the college will be posted on the notice board of the college, from time to time, in accordance with the university schedule during the admission period.

Ques. I did not opt for BSc (H) Mathematics at SPMCW, but I qualified for the cutoff. Can I still apply?

Ans. No, it is not possible for a student to choose another course like B.A. (H), after the release of cutoff lists for studying in SPMCW. According to the rules of DU, only those applicants who have chosen the exact college and their course combination in the common application of DU UG Merit Based Admission, are eligible to apply for admission upon qualifying the cut off.

Remarks:

I took the entrance exam for Delhi University which is cuet. I got all the information through the official website of du through the internet. They give all the information correctly. For this course, the eligibility criteria is just to get good marks in the main exams which you have already studied in class 12. I availed the reservation benefits of obc for which I have to give the noncreamy certificate. I just want to say that the admission process takes too much time so they should over this process within in 2 months so that no one can miss their classes.

Remarks:

The admission process for my college was quite smooth. Since I got admitted into the course during COVID-19, the admission was done online, the admin staff was (and still is) very accommodating. I had a million queries before the application, which were solved by the faculty via email swiftly and in detail. I liked how they were open to solving each one of our problems, no matter how petty in nature they were.

One of my friends studied at Kalindi College of Delhi University. According to her, it is a really good institution and offers decent opportunities. SPM is also a good college and it has its fair share of pros and cons. It is a well facilitated institution. Here are some facts about both of them:

Kalindi College:

  • They have a highly experienced faculty. They are also helpful towards the students, you will get to learn a lot from them.
  • The student crowd is diverse.
  • Students here have to maintain a 80% attendance, otherwise they will not be able to sit for the examinations.
  • Being in Delhi, it offers enough industrial exposure.

SPM:

  • It has active clubs and societies students can take part in.
  • They give a fair opportunity to every student.
  • It also has one of the best auditoriums in all DU colleges.
  • Their canteen is affordable and offers hygienic food.
  • The administration and faculty are not up to the mark. They are not cooperative with the students.
  • The faculty members do not take initiative to encourage practical works, allow creativity, have valid arguments, etc.
  • Also the college does not provide hostel facilities so people either have to live as paying guests or have to commute on a daily basis.

So even though you might get ample opportunities like internships there is no active participation for this SPM lags a lot behind than the other DU colleges.

Overall SPM is a below average college where management does not put the slightest efforts to make it a better place. Therefore Kalindi will be a better option.

Aryabhatta College will be a better choice when compared to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College.

  • The faculty is good and highly experienced.
  • There are societies and clubs you can be a part of.
  • The canteen food is hygienic and affordable.
  • The college environment is peaceful and appropriate for an educational institution.
  • Aryabhatta also provides better exposure.
Categories Aryabhatta College
Course Fee 84,000
Placement Percentage 70%
Highest CTC 8 LPA
Average CTC 3-3.5 LPA
Recruiting Companies KPMG, TCS, Cognizant, Dell, etc.

It is suggested that you go for Aryabhatta College. Being a co-ed college situated in the main south campus has its own perks.
