Which is Better?

Among distance education options:

  • Amity University Online usually gives the most organised placement support, including career services, job portals, and industry partnerships. Actual placements still depend on the student's profile, skills, and effort.
  • DU SOL carries the Delhi University brand and alumni network, which can help with networking and career options, but formal placement drives are not common.
  • IGNOU offers very limited placement help, so most students depend on skills, internships, or personal networking.

No distance education program can promise placements. A student's preparation, effort, and active participation matter the most.

Pros & Cons of IGNOU

Pros Cons
Lower tuition fees than most public and private universities Limited centralised placement help, so most students use off-campus options
Flexible study schedule through distance and online learning Needs strong self-discipline because outside academic pressure is limited
Recognised by UGC-DEB for distance education Administrative work can be slow
Wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programs Very little campus life and peer interaction compared with regular universities
Regional and study centre network across India and some international locations Support quality can differ across regional and study centres
Study material through print, eGyankosh, and SWAYAM Communication and response times are often slower than regular institutions
Good for candidates preparing for UPSC or SSC because the schedule is flexible Some programs have limited industry exposure or internships
Printed and digital learning resources are included in most programs Labs, fieldwork, and other practical parts may depend on location and availability

Note: The pros and cons are based on aggregated student feedback, institutional data, and publicly available insights. Individual experiences may differ by program and regional study centre.

IGNOU FAQs

Ques. What is the correct way to submit IGNOU assignments?

Ans. Assignments carry 30% of the total marks, so students must submit them before the due date at their own study centre. They should follow the assignment questions and the notice issued with them, as IGNOU explains the format, submission pattern, answer paper type, and file requirements there.

Ques. Can IGNOU students apply for revaluation if they are unhappy with their marks?

Ans. Yes. Students who are not satisfied with their marks can use the IGNOU student service portal to submit their answer paper for revaluation. The portal explains the steps for sending the answer paper for checking again.

Ques. What can a student do after missing an IGNOU TEE exam?

Ans. IGNOU holds term-end exams in December for the January session and in June for the July session. A student who misses one TEE can fill the examination form for the next exam cycle. For example, a student who misses the December exam can apply for the June exam.

Ques. How can working students manage multiple IGNOU TEE papers?

Ans. IGNOU gives an extra duration of 2 years. For a 3-year program, students get 2 more years to finish the degree. Working students can divide papers between December and June exams to reduce pressure and prepare better.

Ques. How do students get IGNOU study material from eGyanKosh?

Ans. Students can download IGNOU study material from eGyanKosh by following these steps:

  • Open the official eGyanKosh website.
  • Click on "IGNOU Self Learning Material (SLM)" or search directly.
  • Choose the school and then the program.
  • Select the course code.
  • Download blocks or units as PDF files.
  • Create a free account for easier access and download tracking.

Ques. Is IGNOU study material available outside eGyanKosh?

Ans. Yes. Students can also use the IGNOU e-Content app. It is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and gives mobile access to study material.

Ques. How can a student track IGNOU printed study material delivery?

Ans. Students can check the dispatch status of IGNOU study material through these steps:

  • Visit the official IGNOU website.
  • Open the "Student Zone."
  • Click on "Study Material Status."
  • Enter the enrollment number and program code.
  • Check the dispatch status, expected delivery date, and remarks.
  • Printed material usually reaches students after 30-60 days from admission confirmation.

Ques. Are IGNOU exams difficult?

Ans. IGNOU exams are manageable when students study the official material properly, write assignments themselves, and practise previous year question papers. Clear and detailed answers improve the chance of passing. The minimum marks are usually 35/100. Students should also build skills along with the degree because career outcomes depend on more than exam marks.

Ques. Are PCP classes compulsory in IGNOU?

Ans. Students may skip IGNOU PCP classes and appear in exams in a later session without informing anyone, but assignments still have to be submitted and exam fees must be paid again during re-registration. Practical classes need compulsory attendance. Skipping PCPs does not extend the program duration, so students should check Regional Centre rules and use online resources like eGyankosh for preparation.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very bad as it has not updated from a long time. They can work on their faculty and teaching method. Also they can work on their student to faculty ratio which is very high. The exams are easy to crack.

Faculty:

The faculty is not good and their teaching method is worst. The student to faculty ratio is very high and they can not focus. Sometimes the students know more things about the topic than the teacher himself.

It is advised that you do not consider whether the IGNOU certificate is valuable in terms of getting a job. However, the acquired knowledge and skills will be precious to you. Time management, submitting assignments on time, and sitting for exams at the end are all essential requirements.

The institute's name serves only as an icebreaker at first; once hired, there is no turning back. Put that knowledge to use at work.

Most importantly, it is a GOVERNMENT OF INDIA recognized certificate that is accepted almost everywhere in the world.

So, if you want to work while studying or can't afford a regular course, IGNOU is far superior to good.

Below mentioned are some of the positive aspects of IGNOU:

  • When compared to other private universities such as Symbiosis Distance Learning, you pay nearly one-tenth the price to complete your degree or PG (except for an MBA, which is half the price).

  • It's the government. University is recognized worldwide until the criteria state that only full-time courses are permitted.

  • You get standard books that will not only impart good knowledge but will also help you clear competitive exams in simple and easy language, and they are available in both Hindi and English.

  • Transfers are available in almost all states if you need to relocate during your academic career.

  • There are several other benefits to joining this university and simply completing your tasks on time, such as assignments that are given only once a year and you have almost 6 months to complete them, and the answers are easy to find in your course books.

It provides an excellent platform for your success in life. If you want to study at IGNOU, you should definitely do so.

Yes. The IGNOU marking system is very poor, and you must have a lot of patience if you are pursuing any degree from IGNOU. If you fail to submit your assignment grades, your results will be delayed for several months.

IGNOU is certainly playing with students' careers because they are so unconcerned about their grades and future. They are unconcerned about how and what is written on the answer sheets. They only postpone things and do not address the issue.

IGNOU is best for distance learning MBA. IGNOU MBA course structure is pretty good. You will get to learn the basics first then the main concepts. The study materials are good and make the learning process smooth. IGNOU also has a better reputation.

Symbiosis Pune is also a good option for MBA. You can choose one of these two options based on fee structure and eligibility.

Even an IIM degree may be worthless if you do not learn anything while pursuing it.

Because you have not specified the nature of your use for an MBA degree, it is assumed that you are a working professional interested in gaining theoretical knowledge of management through an MBA from IGNOU.

When we compare IGNOU to other distance learning universities such as SMU and Symbiosis, we can see that IGNOU stands out due to the well-structured course material and the importance of assignments. The faculty who are mentoring SOMS IGNOU (School of Management Studies) is top-tier professors from IIMs and IIFT, as well as senior government officials.

However, expecting an MBA to be equivalent to a regular MBA degree to get a job is unrealistic. Most MBA programs in India are extremely rigorous and intensive. This is because a future manager is expected to perform under pressure, and a management student is subjected to that pressure from day one of his MBA program. As a result of regular case study discussions and extensive knowledge sharing in peer groups, a regular MBA is considered to be far more valuable than a distance MBA. However, a regular MBA requires a significant time and financial investment.

So, if you are already in a well-established job and want to advance to a management position or simply learn more about the theoretical aspects of management, an MBA from IGNOU will undoubtedly help you serve the purpose with minimal investment of both time and money.

The worth of an IGNOU degree can be determined in several ways:

  • Under its legitimacy as a degree. (Accredited by UGC and AICTE)
  • Under its eligibility for government jobs (Almost all govt jobs)
  • The caliber of its course curriculum (Yes, It has one of the updated courses with the latest trends)
  • Because of its reputation in the private sector. A large number of bright students who are unable to attend regular courses for various reasons attend them.
  • Because of its teaching methodology. (They provide distance education, but they engage you for a full year with assignments, projects, exams, and weekend classes.)
However, if you compare the quality of knowledge inducted in distance course vs regular course, you will find that regular course provides better exposure. Any job is dependent on the candidate's skills, and if you are talented enough to learn the necessary skills, finding work will be easy. One must not blame a degree if you are a mediocre learner.

In IGNOU, none of the faculty members at your regional center or study center will assist you in answering your questions. You must assume everything on your own and act accordingly. If you have any questions about your assignment submission or lab courses, your study center will simply tell you to contact the regional center. And in the regional center, no one will answer the phone, and no one will respond to your emails. If you accidentally sent your document or something to the wrong center, they will notify you after the form submission deadline and tell you that there is nothing you can do and that you must submit the form again in the upcoming semester. Rude teachers will respond to your inquiries. You may feel as if you are studying without paying fees, and the teachers are unconcerned about your problems. They are simply teachers by designation; they have no idea what to do or how to assist students with assignments/labs, etc.

Students are pursuing distance education because they are unable to attend college daily due to their jobs. However, they expect them to travel to a regional center that is not in the same city every month to have our basic questions answered. In terms of projects, they may say in viva that the report should look like this. When you submit the report as instructed the next time, another superintendent will be present to reject it and instruct you to format it as before.

IGNOU does not provide semester or year-end grade reports. It will provide you with a consolidated mark sheet at the end of your program. However, if you want a mark sheet halfway through, you must apply it separately. You will be charged a nominal fee and will receive IGNOU marksheet for all of the papers you have already examined, as well as the results.

The university gives you the option of coming to the convocation ceremony to get your degree certificate or sending an Rs. 200 demand draft as they post the degree.

To be honest, IGNOU is an undesirable university in India. Don't believe those who claim that "it's the best open university" and other such nonsense. They don't give a damn about you, your future, or your time. When you go to the regional center, they tell you to go to the IGNOU headquarters. And the office of concern in the headquarter of Ignou will tell you to go to the post office, and the post office will tell you to bring the dispatch number from the headquarters of IGNOU, and they will tell you that the regional center will provide the dispatch number of the book but it would not get into your hands even at the end.

IGNOU is the worst open university; they value the number of students over the quality of education. They do nothing to help students, and IGNOU is just a big scam run by undeserving people and goons. It is strongly advised to avoid IGNOU. AMU and Jamia are far superior for open studies.
