Course Description

IICT Hyderabad PhD is a three-year-long doctoral-level course offered in a regular mode. The candidate needs to apply according to their marks in the past academic record for the shortlisting purpose while admissions are offered based on interviews conducted. IICT declares a merit list, and students who are present in the list are eligible to apply for the interview.

The program is available only in offline mode in two specializations namely Chemical & Biological Sciences (Science) and Chemical Engineering (Engineering).
IICT-CSIR Hyderabad charges an average of INR 60,000 for the PhD course in Chemical & Biological Sciences and an average of INR 55,000 in Chemical Engineering.
IICT offers admission to PhD courses based on merit and interview combined.
If there is an exceptionally good candidate, s/ he can apply for a direct PhD in engineering after B.Tech./ B.E. with a valid GATE score.
After successful completion of the course, students may seek a career in Chemical Industries and work for companies like Exxon, Dairy, ICT, BHEL, Indian Oil, L & T, Dr Reddy, alkylamines, etc.

IICT Hyderabad PhD Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants seeking admissions to the PhD program of IICT-CSIR must satisfy the below-mentioned eligibility criteria:

The candidate must be a citizen of India and must have passed 10+2 or HSC from CBSE or any other recognized Indian Board.
Candidates must have completed post-graduation in relevant discipline from a state or central or any other recognized University by AIU.
The candidate must have secured a minimum aggregate percentage of 60.
Candidates can apply only twice for admission to this IICT Hyderabad PhD program. However, candidates belonging to SC/ ST and another backward committee can apply thrice for the same.
The age of the candidate must not exceed 26 at the time of application.
Relaxation of 5% marks is provided to students from SC/ ST/ SCA/ MBC/ DNC and other underprivileged groups.

IICT-CSIR accepts scores of the postgraduate degree in related domain courses offered by different recognized Indian Universities.
Applicants are shortlisted based on the cut-off set by the management every year.
The final selection is based on the candidate’s combined performance in post-graduation and the interview conducted by the administration itself.
Shortlisted candidates will further be required to appear for counselling divided into different rounds.

IICT Hyderabad PhD Course Details

IICT -CSIR offers the PhD program for 3 years (s) comprising 6 semesters. The course provides students with skills required for their future studies or career in a related field. Students who want to pursue the course have to complete it on a classroom basis.

All the courses are offered on a full-time and classroom basis only. There is no provision of part-time and distance courses for this course.
The course comprises a total of 170 credits.
Students must attend a training session for their research purpose in the last semester.
Each semester has a total of 28 credits.

Program Structure:

Course Structure: The maximum duration granted to complete the PhD course is 5 years. The minimum number of working days in the even semesters shall be 75 days and for the odd semesters, there shall be a minimum of 50 working days. The scheme and syllabi of all semesters till the 5th semester are assigned by college administrations whereas, students will always be eligible to choose a course of their own choice (during internship or training).
Attendance: Candidates must maintain at least 75% attendance in the entire coursework to eligible for end term examinations
Assessments: Students are assessed based on their performance in internal examinations, assignments such as homework, problem-solving, group discussions, quiz, literature survey, seminar, term-project, etc.
End Term Examinations: Candidates who secure not less than 40% marks in end term examinations will be considered to pass in that semester. Students are provided with elective courses to choose from during the final semester of coursework.

Ques. Is IICT Hyderabad PhD worth joining or is it better to join any foreign college?

Ans. IICT (CSIR) is one of the most prestigious science and technical institutes in India as well as worldwide. Many tough national level entrance exams are to be qualified to get a seat in university; however, according to various rankings, IICT- CSIR is the best for this course. The university offers world-class infrastructure, faculty, exposure, carrier enhancement, etc.

Ques. Can a student directly join the IICT Hyderabad PhD program without completion of post-graduation?

Ans. Yes. Students who have opted for the Bachelor's program for technology i.e. the B.Tech or BE at any state or central university and qualified GATE exam with good rank, have the option to join the course directly. Students have to complete the whole course in the session otherwise there is no option of rejoining. So, this option is open for only some of the so-called extraordinary students.
