Agharkar Research Institute, Pune is formerly known as Maharashtra Association for Cultivation of Science (MACS) is a research institute that offers ‘Research degree’ in six different areas of life sciences or biology namely - Biodiversity & Paleobiology, Nano bioscience, Bioenergy, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Developmental Biology and Bioprospecting. It is an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It has recently celebrated its 49th Foundation Day on 3rd May 2020.

ARI offers a Ph.D. in six different areas of science. Some of the important details are mentioned below:

• The application mode is online and candidates can apply for their desired course.
• The applicant must possess either a CSIR/UGC-Junior Research Fellowship or NET-LS/GATE.
• They must have completed their M.Sc. with minimum 60% aggregate marks.
• The list of the candidates short-listed for interview will be available on the official website
• The interview will be conducted as per the University rules.
• The date and venue of the interview will be available on the official website.

Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) is an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. It was established in 1946 as Maharashtra Association for the Cultivation of Science (MACS).

Later, as the research activities started expanding, the MACS Research Institute was given a separate identity. The institute was renamed as ARI in 1992 to honour its founder Director, late Professor S. P. Agharkar. 

The institute has a distinguished faculty, modern infrastructural facilities, well-equipped laboratories, a guest house and students’ hostel. It is affiliated to the S.P. Pune University for postgraduate research (M.Sc. and Ph.D.).
