Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest fields of engineering and it deals with design, construction and use of heavy machinery. They require a knowledge of heavy tools and equipment. Some might also involve aircrafts, automobiles and electric power plants.

Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE) is affiliated under Anna University, Chennai. It has a student strength of 3911 students.

Admission Requirements:

• Candidates should have 50% in their 10+2 qualifying exam.
• Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are compulsory.
• Students will be finalized by their achieved rank in the TNEA entrance examination.

Faculty

• The department has a total of 30 faculty members consisting of Professors, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor.
• More than 15 faculty members have a doctoral degree in their respective fields.
• Currently, 6 faculty members of Mechanical Engineering are carrying out their doctoral research work at research centres in the department. 

With this, the department has 9 well-equipped laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities. The department also takes up industrial consultancy works from various industries.
