In terms of teaching, both Rajalakshmi Engineering College and RMK are good. The faculty is well qualified who are dynamic and many of them are Ph.D holders. REC is good in terms of exposure and extra co-curricular activities, compare to RMK.

RMK has a mess in which you get good non-veg food with desserts along with tea and snacks in the evening. But REC has 3-4 canteens inside and outside which gives you good quality of food but the only negative point is that they don't serve non-veg food.

REC is lenient when compared with RMK in terms of dress code, communicating with your classmates, using phones and laptops. Campus ambiance is good in both REC and RMK. Now the REC campus has been renovated and it has more greenery when compared to past days.

In terms of placement at RMK, you will get several opportunities for IT companies and limited offers for civil and mechanical. REC provides a lot of training programs and ensures that each student gets placed. Some of the recruiters are TATA, WIPRO and the list goes on.

RMK Engineering College has various pros and cons and you will have to make your own decision based on the following points that have been mentioned by the students studying in that college. The pros of this college are as follows:

  1. The college campus is very studious and you will enjoy studying in the campus. The main purpose of the college is to make you study.
  2. In ECE and mechanical branches you will find good lecturers.
  3. Most of the top IT companies visit the campus for conducting campus placements.
  4. You will also experience regular guest lecturers in the campus who will be sharing their corporate experiences.
  5. The food provided in the mess facility is good and hygienic.
  6. The whole campus is wifi enabled and there is no transportation near the campus.

The cons of this college are as follows:

  1. There are several strict rules in the campus like less usage of mobile phones and not talking to opposite sex.
  2. Some seniors might judge you on the basis of your percentages.
  3. The college generally doesn’t allocate funds for any kind of projects and events.
  4. The college is very strict in terms of providing leaves; they might call your parents if necessary.
  5. You are not supposed to roam freely in the campus without any valid reason.

But all these rules and regulations are made for the benefit of the students. You will realize that when you will get a job after passing out from this college. These rules make the campus more disciplined.

Sri Venkateswara Engineering College (SVEC) is better than RMK engineering college around Chennai. One of my cousins being part of the institute has her own opinions regarding the same, let me share some of them which will give you a clear idea.

  1. You will have a good standard of peers that will improve your exposure. It will help in developing quite a number of contacts.
  2. If you are planning to pursue your post-graduation, then enroll in SVEC. More than 30% of the students plan it (Post Graduation) early in their career.
  3. In terms of placements, you should possibly have no second thoughts, because SVEC is the best, only after SSN.
  4. Besides, SVEC also comes with a brand value that can add up to your exposure.

One of my cousins studied at RMK, and according to her,the rules and regulations at RMK Engineering College are very strict. The use of laptops also falls under its strict rules.

  • Students can bring laptops to hostels after 1st semester by taking permission from the college.
  • They are allowed to use their laptops from 3 PM to 7 PM only when the internet is provided to the hostels.
  • You also need to register your laptop under RMK forms.
