Placements are not that good or maybe right now it's because of the recession going on in industries. Average package I think should be around 3 to 4 lakhs. Placement percentage of students should be around 70 to 80%.
College does provide you with some internships but you need to do it on your own. Invest yourself in your job preparation as much as possible and as early as possible. Try to contact seniors in your 1yr of college.

Placement packages vary from year to year. 60- 70 % of students get placement and it varies year to year and the interest of students. My plan was very clear and wanted to change my background from technical to humanitarian subjects for further studies and I did the same.

Thus concluding we can say that though there are options for you to enter the research and development field, joining research centers, applying for a job, or searching for a job. But pursuing a master's degree would be a much better option as it will provide you ample opportunities to opt for.
