The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was established in 1972 in Imphal, India. It is run by a society named "North Eastern Regional Medical College Society" which was duly registered under the Manipur Societies.

The college offers a bunch of medical courses in the field of Medical, Dental, Nursing, Urology etc. In addition to undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, the institute also offers Doctoral degree courses.

The institute conducts different admission procedure for different courses.

The candidates seeking admission in MBBS, BDS, MD and MS courses, must have to appear an entrance exam, popularly known as National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), as per the norm of the supreme court. The candidates are selected on the basis of marks obtained in NEET.
The admission in B.Sc Nursing programme is made by the marks obtained in 10+2 level examination.
The institute conducts a written test for the candidates seeking admission in M.Ch. programme. The candidates are admitted by their performance and secured marks in the exam.
The institute makes the selection for the admission in Ph.D. based on merit.

RIMS Imphal MBBS and BDS Admission 2023

The institute provides Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programmes at the undergraduate level. Duration of MBBS course is 5.5 years whereas the duration of BDS programme is 4 years.

The candidates seeking admission in MBBS and BDS courses, must have to appear an entrance exam, popularly known as National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), as per the norm of supreme court. The candidates are selected on the basis of marks obtained in NEET. The institute provides a relaxation of 5% marks for admission in MBBS and BDS, for the candidates belonging to SC/ST category.

RIMS Imphal Nursing Admission 2023

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing) is another UG level course, provided by the institute with a duration period of four years. The capacity intake of the programmes is 50. Candidates seeking admission in the programme, need to have Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English in the 10+2 level.

The admission in B.Sc Nursing programme is made by the marks obtained in 10+2 level examination.

There is a 5% marks relaxation offered by the institute, to the candidates belonging to SC/ST category.

RIMS Imphal MD/MS/ Diploma Admission 2023

At the postgraduate level, the institute offers Medicine of Doctor (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) and PG Diploma to their respective candidates. The duration of MD and MS is three years, whereas the PG Diploma holds a duration of two years.

Candidates must need to secure an MBBS degree from a recognized university to admit the eligible criteria of MD, MS and Diploma.

Willing candidates need to go through an entrance exam commonly known as NEET, conducted by NBE. The institute makes their selection by the performance of candidates in NEET.

RIMS Imphal Post-Doctoral M.Ch Admission 2023

The Institute also offers the Master of Surgery (Latin: Magister Chirurgiae), which is an advanced qualification in surgery. The institute offers two specializations in M.Ch, those are Urology and

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Each of the specialization holds a duration period of three years.

The institute conducts a written test for the candidates seeking admission in M.Ch. The candidates are admitted by their performance and secured marks in the exam. Maximum age limit is upto 35 years

RIMS Imphal M.Phil Admission 2023

The institute provides another doctoral programme Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) with a duration of two years. The candidates must hold M.A/ M.Sc in Psychology degree with 55% marks from a recognized degree.

The candidates seeking admission in M.Phil programme, must need to appear in an entrance exam conducted by the institute itself.

Is RIMS Imphal better than NEIGRIHMS Shillong?

Among RIMS Imphal and NEIGRIHMS Shillong, the latter is a better option. In the northeastern region, it is the first post-graduate medical institute. It is an autonomous institute, which is run by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The faculties at the institute are great. Many guest speakers visit the institute from Delhi. It also has a better patient flow. Although the campus of NEIGRIHMS is smaller as compared to RIMS Imphal, it offers better infrastructure.

RIMS Imphal is the oldest medical institute in northeast India. NIRF 2021 has ranked the institute 43 for medical sciences. It is also the first choice for most medical aspirants. NEIGRIHMS, Shillong is the second choice for most students since it is a Central Govt. Institute. Due to high fees, AGMC, Agartala is less preferred among students.
