Bachelor of Business Administration offered by St Xaviers College is a rigorous program. It is at par with the B.Com course if not better.

Some other points that you might like to know.

  • Strict attendance requirements: You have to attend a minimum of 75% of classes in order to be eligible for appearing in the semester exams. You can do with a 60–75% attendance as well by paying a condonation fee per subject.
  • Satisfactory faculty: The faculty is satisfactory as the professors are experienced and student-friendly. They have an approach similar to the ones followed by various B-schools.
  • Gender ratio: BBA classes are fun in comparison to other classes as the gender ratio is approximately 50-50.
  • Better networking: As the batch size is small, you get to know your classmates quite well. The connections you make at the college can be quite helpful in the future.
  • Class Schedule: The 4-hour long class schedule is great, as you can concentrate on other things like preparing for CAT or other competitive examinations.
  • Curriculum: The course curriculum is similar to that of BCom. Only the semester-wise arrangement varies.
  • Placement: The Placement Cell has picked up its pace in the past few years and has got big names on board like Big 4, Google, Uber, etc. But great packages at the undergrad level are not something very common.

For admission, you have to take an entrance test of 50 marks. There is no negative marking. The entrance exam comprises questions from Math and English. Admission is awarded on the basis of board results and entrance test with 50% weightage to each category.

Yes, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata has reservations and they give admissions on that basis. The students falling under the categories of reservations are given priorities. All the reservations are the same as the state reservations except the first category that is the merit-based reservations for the General category students.

These are the categories of reservations in St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. If a student falls under one of these categories, they will get an admission for sure.

St. Xavier’s College is an autonomous college under CU. St. Xavier’s University is a separate university. Though both of these institutes are under the same management.

You should choose St. Xavier’s College for a B.Com (Hons). It is the best commerce college in the country. The professors are the best in the field. Being autonomous, curriculum to examination papers, everything is set by the college. Only the degree is offered by CU. St. Xavier’s College fees are nominal for B.Com. The course fee is only INR 2.35 Lakhs.

Both the colleges are different from each other in terms of rules and the curriculum. Having to know some people in both of these colleges, here are some comparative points you can refer to before making a decision.

  • If you are an early riser, Narsee Monjee is the best as the classes start in the early morning. On the other hand, classes at St. Xaviers Kolkata are usually conducted in the evening from 4 pm to 8 pm.
  • Choosing between the two also depends on your perspective whether you want to be in your comfort or you want to see a change in your schedule.
  • CA is not an easy subject. One of my friends has cleared IPCC and it will require a lot of dedication and hard work.
  • Coupled with B.Com it becomes more challenging. But if you are well prepared, it will not be a problem.
  • The quality of education and brand name is at par for both the colleges, however, if you are an average student then Narsee Monjee is a better choice.
  • This is because you can attend the classes in the morning itself and finish by noon so that you can join coaching in the evening.
  • Both the colleges demand a minimum of 75% attendance however, in recent years Narsee Monjee has been allowing students with at least 50% attendance. So again the decision depends on your dedication towards CA.
  • Being in a morning college also makes you disciplined. You will be able to work on a routine.

Overall, CA is one of the prestigious career perspectives in India and there is a huge scope for CA graduates. Thus, you must choose the college wisely. Both of these colleges stand apart from each other In terms of schedule and even location. Know your determination towards your goal and you can easily make a choice.

One of my friends studied in Lady Brabourne College with Physics (Hons). The criteria was an exact 100 in physics. The criteria for other boards may be equal or vary.

This might have changed over the years, but chances are very less if you have scored less than 95.

St Xavier’s College’ Chemistry (Hons.) criteria is around 95–98%. Some students with 90% or above will get admission through 3rd or 4th list if there are vacant seats.

Therefore to secure a seat, your overall percentage must be more than 95 and in the subject you want to pursue for your honors, you must have a higher score than 97, from whichever board you graduate from.

If you are considering taking up BBA, it is important to note that true value addition happens when you take up internships, participate in extracurricular and co-curricular activities, enroll in additional courses, and participate in intercollegiate festivals.

When it comes to choosing between NMIMS and Narsee Monjee, it is not about which one is better, but rather Mumbai is a better choice overall. Mumbai is the financial hub of India and has a plethora of prospective employers. If you are interested in finance, there are plenty of opportunities in brokerage houses, banks, NBFCs, advisories, and more.

Similarly, if you are interested in marketing, there are plenty of marketing profiles available as well. Additionally, if you want to pursue something unique and unrelated to your degree, Mumbai provides ample opportunities to make money while pursuing your passion.

Mumbai offers more opportunities compared to other cities. NMIMS and NM College are both extremely reputed colleges with a good alumni base and hardworking students. If you are able to network, make contacts, and leverage the opportunities available, you can add significant value to your education.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, but if you have the opportunity to attend either NMIMS or NM College in Mumbai, it can provide a great foundation for your future.
