PSG College of Arts and Science, situated at Coimbatore, was established in the year 1947 by PSG & Sons Charities Trust. The college offers an extensive list of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. In addition to it, PSG College of Arts and Commerce also provides certificate or diploma courses along with some additional courses offered to the students based on their interest. The course duration of undergraduate programmes is 3 years while the duration of post graduate programme is 2 to 5 years depending on the stream chosen by the candidate. The diploma or certified courses are of 1 year duration.

The eligibility criteria for candidates applying for undergraduate aided/unaided programs are different depending upon the course they choose to opt.
For all the BA programmes, the mandatory eligibility criterion is that the candidate must have passed 10+2 qualifying examination.
For post graduate programs, the candidate stands eligible if he/she has completed the graduation with the mandatory subjects required for the respective program.
The selection process for undergraduate programs is based on merit/scores obtained in the the qualifying examination.
For postgraduate programmes, the admission is made on a direct basis or through entrance examination.

PSG College of Arts and Science offers various course choices at undergraduate level. The bachelor degree courses are available in multiple fields siuch as Science, commerce and arts for different subjects. Admission to the UG programs in done on Merit Basis i.e. scores obtained by the candidate in the 10+2 qualifying examination.

Candidates can opt for online or offline application mode of admission as per their convenience. In all the above Bachelor programs, the minimum eligibility requirement is passing in 10+2 examinations. Depending on the choice of the candidate’s subject for Bachelor degree, the eligibility criteria differs.

In few bachelor programs, there are some obligatory subjects. All the students have to adhere to these minimum eligibility criteria before filling the application form.

The college starts the admission process after the class 12 result is declared. While filling the application form, the candidate will be required to enter the Board registration number.

PSG College of Arts and Sciences offer a wide range of PG courses including MA, M.Sc in multiple specializations. PSG College of Arts and Science Application Process 2023

Candidates seeking admission to courses offered by PSG College of Arts and Science can log on to the official university website. The candidates must make sure that the details entered in the application form are relevant and valid. An application fee of Rs.200/- for unaided course and Rs.50/- for an aided course has to be paid online.

Candidates can also apply for offline mode of application by contacting the institution and completed forms can be sent to the college address along with the fee and necessary documents.

The application form filling generally starts in the month of April and students can register until the last week of May. Candidates can fill the application form after signing up through the online application portal.

While signing up/ registering for PSG College of Arts and Science admissions,candidates should keep in mind the following points:

All the fields must be filled by a New User in order to complete the Registration.
Candidates should provide their Full Name as mentioned in the Class X/XII/School leaving certificate without any special characters.
Candidate should enter the 12th Exam Roll No issued by the Board (as mentioned in the Marksheet)
The Email ID provided during the Sign Up will be used during the entire admission process including while logging into the Admission Portal and cannot be changed at a later stage
The Mobile Number provided will be used for communication purposes during the Admissions process.

Note: An applicant must select the subjects he/she has chosen at HSC/Std XII level at the time of filling the application. He/She can fill in the individual marks and related details later by logging into the portal.

Points to Remember while filling the application form:

For saving the partially-completed form data in order to login later and continue filling the form, candidate should click on "SAVE AND CONTINUE EDITING" button periodically
Candidate can also preview the filled application form upon clicking the “SUBMIT APPLICATION FORM” and go back and edit the same, if needed, by clicking on “EDIT APPLICATION FORM”.
Upon clicking the “CONFIRM AND PROCEED TO PAYMENT”, candidate will be redirected to a Payment gateway to do the online payment.
The applicant will receive the application form number upon successful payment. In case the payment is unsuccessful, the amount shall be credited back in the bank account or it will get refunded through our reconciliation process automatically within 15-20 working days

Reservation

The seats are reserved for OBC, SC and ST categories. The percentage distribution is 50% for general, 27% for OBC, 15% for SC and 8% for ST.

Scholarships

The college gives a tuition fee waiver for intelligent students who hold a good score in the academics and this waiver is completely based on merit. The state government also gives aid to economically weak students. For more information the student can contact the office of registrar.

PGC College is quite good for pursuing a arts/science degree in Coimbatore. The bachelor’s program in Computer Science offered by the institute is quite good. Reputed companies like Google visit the campus for placements. In the recent placement drive, the average CTC offered at the institute was 3 LPA. However, they only teach fundamentals. So, if you want to learn in-depth, you will have to self-study. You can learn through sites like Coursera or MOOCs.

PGC is a great option if you want a career in the IT industry. Compared to colleges of Tamil Nadu like Loyola/Prasidancy/MCC, it is better.

One of my friends studied at SJC College Trichy. He completed his Post Graduation in Botany from this college. He is still proud of his time as a student at SJC. Here are some facts about the college you should know.

In the entire state of Tamil Nadu, there were just five colleges that offered a PG course in Botany. Among these colleges, SJC college was the first to offer a postgraduate course in Botany.
The facilities and resources made available to the students were extraordinary.
The PG department had an exclusively specialized Botany library, in addition to the extraordinarily well-equipped College Central Library.
The laboratories were well-equipped and the campus had a huge Herbarium with a fantastic collection of plants.
The college's admissions procedure was open and transparent, with just merit as a criterion.
They have such excellent professors. They supervised every student in addition to teaching the course curriculum.
There were no on-campus recruitments. Despite this, every student who passed was offered a job.

Most of my friend’s classmates became teachers, and they are doing well. The students absorbed not only knowledge but also values. He still recalls and adores his professors because he feels he owes them a debt of gratitude.

You should opt for Loyola College for your overall development as a student. Chennai is a metropolitan city that opens various opportunities from a student’s point of view.

If you want to prepare for any other domain apart from academics such as a bank, sports, civil services, business, or any higher studies preparation, you can easily do anything from Chennai.

The faculty is also far better than the PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore and it is also better in terms of reputation.

It depends on your course and location preference. Both Loyola College, Chennai, and PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore are quite reputed.

For Viscom, Mass media, and literature courses, Loyola College is more reputed.
Whereas, PSG College is well-known for Commerce and Science courses.

You will get good exposure at both institutes. It’s better to choose a course first and look for facilities for that course at both colleges.

I have friends from all three institutes. According to their experience, I will say St. Joseph College Trichy is a better option. It has good infrastructural facilities and a decent library. The faculties are decent. The college has strict rules regarding attendance. A minimum of 80% subject-wise attendance is necessary.

Is it worth joining a BSc in physics at PSG College of Arts and Science?

Yes, PSG CAS is a great option for pursuing a B.Sc program in Physics. The lab facilities and library resources at the institute are better than other colleges in the region. The institute also offers aided and unaided Physics courses. The timing for aided and unaided courses are respectively 9 am-3 pm and 1 am to 6 pm.

You won’t face any pressure at the campus, you can learn at your own pace and enjoy. The teachers are also cooperative.
