Government Degree College was established in 1993. Initially college was run as a single faculty college. 1 year under faculty of commerce with a modest strength of 55 students. B.Sc classes under faculty of science and B.A classes under faculty of Arts was started from the session 2001-02 and further M.Com class at Post Graduation level under the faculty of commerce has also begun from the session 2004-05. The Govt. Degree College, Dakpathar is catering to the needs of higher education of the Pachwa Doon and Jaunsar Bawar tribal area of Distt. Dehradun and full fill the aspirations of higher learning of the youth. Strength of students has increased enormously in the last couple of years.

At present around 1500 students are studying in the regular coursers. In term of student’s strength this is the largest Govt. Degree College in whole of the Uttarakhand State. The college has a great potential for future growth with the completion of new building in a picturesque campus covering 18 acres of land at Dakpathar.
