The graphic designer must have a thorough working knowledge of design principles, color theory, design software, photography, printing processes, papers, and inks. Training in these areas - and more - is available to students in the The Bachelor of Science Graphic Design at the Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University program. The graphic design program emphasizes the development of the student's artistic potential and visual expression.

From courses in advertising and package design to computer graphics, illustration and web design, the graphic design student is encouraged to build a professional design portfolio. This is the most important factor used by art directors and others in their decisions to hire or contract work with a designer. Many graphic design students, upon graduation, go on to work for advertising agencies, design studios, magazines, newspapers or become self-employed free-lancers.
