FAQs
Ques. How do I submit an application for financial assistance?
Ans. First, go to www.fafsa.gov and fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is used to calculate how much a student and their family are expected to contribute toward their education. Your financial requirement is the difference between the entire cost of attendance and the family contribution. You must submit a FAFSA for each school year in which you wish to receive financial aid.
Ques. How many credit hours do I need to get a federal direct student loan?
Ans. To be eligible for Direct Loans, students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours). If a student drops below half-time during a semester, their Direct Loan(s) may be canceled, and the money returned to the Department of Education.
Ques. Do I need to reapply for financial assistance once per year?
Ans. Yes. You will have the opportunity to submit a "Renewal Application" after your first year, which incorporates preprinted information from the prior year's FAFSA. It's important to keep in mind that your financial eligibility may shift from year to year. Your financial assistance package's renewal is also contingent on acceptable academic progress toward a degree.
Ques. If I live on campus, do I need to have a meal plan?
Ans. Yes, if you live in one of the campus residence halls, you must purchase a food plan. Only before the start of each semester may you modify your meal plan. Meal plans cannot be modified once registration is complete.
Ques. When will I find out where I will be living for the coming year?
Ans. Around the first week of July, all tasks are completed and shipped out. Please double-check that you and your preferred roommate have both requested each other with our office if you have a roommate request. Unless both you and your roommate request each other, no roommate request will be approved.
Ques. Who do I call if I have an emergency in the residence halls or on campus?
Ans. If you ever find yourself in need of assistance, contact your RA RD or Area Coordinator; resident life personnel are available 24 hours a day. In the event of an emergency, we can also call the ASU Police Department at 3000.
