MSc in Economics at the University of Maine is 2 years teaching program.
It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
Students enrolling in the graduate programs in Economics (MSc or MA) focus their studies on advanced microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, and econometrics, with research strengths in applied economics and quantitative methods.
Both the MA and MSc offer non-thesis and thesis options and are 30-credit programs.
This program is well-suited for students who want to prepare for a career where advanced and quantitatively rigorous economics training is required.
International students in the MSc program is considered STEM for the purposes of the 24-month extension of the Optional Practical Training Program.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Students must complete an undergraduate degree in economics or a related field from a recognized institution.
The School of Economics is much more concerned with the applicant’s capacity for graduate study, quantitative reasoning, and the quality of previous work.
Students are required to complete the following prerequisites before entering the graduate program:
- Intermediate Microeconomic Theory (ECO 350)
- Intermediate Macroeconomics (ECO 321)
- Statistics (STS 215 or 232)
- Calculus I (MAT 126)
A GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0 is required to be eligible for the program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

Completed a 4-year UG degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution
Or, completed a master degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution
Or, completed a 3-year UG degree with a first-class from an accredited institution

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
