Statistics is a science of information gathering, data analysis and decision making. The department offers a major in statistics as well as a joint major in statistics and mathematics. Students looking to apply statistics in industry, government, or in applied areas of graduate study should focus on the statistics major. Those interested in graduate study are encouraged to pursue the joint major. You will take courses in survey sampling, experimental design, quality control, biostatistics, and modern data analysis, together with courses in mathematical statistics and probability theory. The major provides excellent preparation for careers in industrial statistics, actuarial science, biostatistics, and research. Our students have had internship opportunities with Google, Merck, City of New York Department of Investigation, and more!
