Our individualized programs of studies, in addition to courses in mathematics, may include courses in computer science, engineering, and other applied areas. Most of our graduate students are supported by Teaching Assistantships which involve classroom teaching in a progressive undergraduate program with increasing use of modern computer technology. Our graduate students praise the friendly and supportive atmosphere of the department.The University of Rhode Island is located in a scenic resort area of Southern New England with easy access to Providence, Boston, and New York.Programs of study can be designed for individuals who are employed on a full-time basis. However, all Ph.D. candidates must register full-time for two consecutive semesters prior to taking the doctoral comprehensive examination.
