Perhaps the most compelling reason for you to become a physics major is that it may be your best opportunity (unless you become a professional physicist) to get a sense of what it takes to understand nature at its most fundamental level. Many people from early childhood are filled with a sense of wonder of the world around them, and are greatly curious about their world, and as children there is often an endless stream of "why's" and "how's". At Duke, you can take advantage of your liberal arts education to choose physics as a major, which will allow you to learn the answers to many of your childhood and current questions about the why of things, and also learn the skills to answer questions for which the answers are not yet known.
