A Bachelor of Science degree in Home Furnishings Merchandising from the University of North Texas can help you enter this career field.

Home environments express an individual's lifestyle and represent their concept of home. Our program is one of the few nationwide focusing specifically on the many home furnishings products continually arriving on the market. These products are the creative, aesthetic and functional results of home furnishings merchandisers.

Our graduates have interned or started careers at many home furnishings and decorative accessory companies in the region and at major national retailers and specialty companies. They've also opened their own businesses. Potential employers include furniture and home furnishings companies, home accent and decorative accessory companies, homebuilders, home centers, manufacturers, sales representatives and showroom managers.

Your knowledge about the growing industry phenomenon of brand extension across apparel and home furnishings products will be enhanced by completing courses with other Merchandising majors.

We also provide you many professional development opportunities through the Speaker Series, the annual Merchandising Career Expo, the Consumer Experience Symposium, the Market Menternship Program, global and regional study tours, professional internships and the Merchant Development Program.

The Executive-in-Residence program hosts executives to discuss their perspectives and experiences. You can meet others who share your interest through several student organizations, including Merchandising Inc. and the National Retail Federation Student Association.

Merchandising study tours to New York, Hong Kong/China, Europe or Dallas allow you to earn 3 credit hours and provide international exposure to the industry. Students tour showrooms, manufacturing facilities, retail establishments, museums and significant historical structures.
