- Statisticians seek to survey representative samples of individuals in order to make inferences about entire populations. Whether estimating the extent of a pest infestation in an agricultural crop or predicting the outcome of a presidential election, statisticians use scientific methods to make useful generalizations. As a statistics major at UC Davis, students will learn some of the most exciting and relevant uses of statistics today; students will have the chance to apply their knowledge to fields such as the biological and agricultural sciences, and students may choose to combine their coursework in statistics with study in computer science.
