• The Master of Engineering (M.Eng) in Bioengineering at the University of California is a 1-year program.
  • It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis.
  • The Department of Bioengineering offers a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Bioengineering, PhD in Bioengineering, and a Master of Translational Medicine (MTM).
  • The Master of Engineering (MEng) program combines a breadth of topics in business and engineering management, applying them to a depth of study in technical concentration.
  • Students earning this degree will choose a track (concentration) of coursework in one of these seven fields:
    • Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
    • Biomedical Engineering Design
    • Biomedical Imaging
    • Biomaterials and Devices
    • General Bioengineering and Entrepreneurship
    • Mechanobiology
    • Synthetic Biology
  • The department consists of 23 core faculty, 8 joint, 4 adjunct, 6 emeritus, and 3 lecturers.
  • The MEng degree requires at least 25 total units of credit, a comprehensive exam, and a capstone report/presentation.
  • The Bioengineering Final Capstone presentation will take place late in the Spring semester and will consist of a 20-minute minimum presentation on the Capstone project.
  • If a student fails the presentation requirement, they will be given the option to give the presentation again the following Fall semester.
  • Failure to pass the exam on this third attempt will constitute a failure of the comprehensive exam requirement for the MEng degree.
  • The UC Berkeley ranks 4th in the BioEngineering graduate program according to US News and World Report.
  • UC Berkeley is the No. 2 U.S. engineering school and 13th overall in the world in the 2020 Times Higher Education‘s World University Rankings.
